Decent, inexpensive tyres in Sydney?

So my old man is looking for a new set of tyres for his 90s model Tarago.

He's been quoted $110 per tyre at a local place so we're wondering if you wonderfully savvy peeps know of anywhere else to look into for some decent, cheaper tyres.

He's located in the Hills District but regularly drives to the Inner West, so anywhere in between is also fine. List anywhere, happy to hear where you get yours! :)

Cheers,
S.

$110 is an fair price, but depends on the brands, I always go to Tempe Tyres, great tyres and cheapest. Never get unknown china tyres or cheap Khumo's. Stick with Dunlop, Goodyear, pierelli and Continentals.

Good luck with waranty, etc. on those tyres! They'll all be parallel imports from Tempe!

Avoid Supercat. Bridgestone tyre centres sell them and they're allegedly made by Bridgestone, but it's very easy to make the tyres squeal and they lose traction too in the rain without much effort on the go pedal.

Agreed on getting good brand tyres, its worth it. From what i have heard Kumhos are not so bad.

I get tires and alignment services at these guys. They are polite and easy to deal with. Alignment always spot on. Give them a ring to get quotes on new tires. Try to avoid the independent mechanic at their parking lot tho.

I've had the Kumhos KH31 on my car, only lasted 2years, ok grip in dry, terrible grip in the wet and noisy.

well there we have it, kumho on the stay-away list for me

Big call considering they come OE on makes like Kia, Hyundai, Holden, Jeep, Chrysler and even on a couple of Mercedes models!!!
There's nothng wrong with them as long as you get the right tyre for your car and driving style! There are some cars I wouldn't put them on, as long as budget wasn't an issue!

Can we ask for more specifics here? What type of car, tyre size & pattern, where you drive, how you drive, distance travelled, etc?
I've had 16" Michelins worth over $400 each and only got 9 months out of a pair. But to be honest, they were soft sticky tyres and it was my driving style at the time that killed them that quickly!

Bob Jane and Yokohama have a promo at the moment.
    Buy 4 pay for 3.

Do you have my phone bugged? lol I was on the phone about 5 minutes before you posted arranging for fitting of these today. lol

The Yokohama BluEarth tyres seem to get a good review, and this 3 for 4 offer was equivalent price-wise to putting on crappy el-cheapo tyres.

On the brand thing I bought some nexen at tyres for my navara a while back and they were awesome.

But yes Tempe tyres are the best and cheapest

  • Thanks for the responses, everyone! Looked into Tempe Tyres and it looks the goods.

    Cheers again :)

  • Kumho's get a good review here and I have had a few sets and they were fine.

I am using pirelli cinturato p7's now but only because they did them for the same price as the Kumho's which weren't in stock.

  • Learnt from lesson, I would check all price quoted is "all up".
Once it's done, some would screw in
    disposal fee
    wheel balance
    extra wheel alignment
their beer after work, poker tax
    10% GST
    credit card fee……

  • Big Big queue at Tempe Tyres don't waste half your day.Go to St George Tyres(if they have what you want of course)
