  • $4.89+free shipping via Hong Kong Post?

Yep,we ship from China. The shipping time usually takes 15-25 days to Australia.

        Yep,we ship from China

        So it's China Post?

        • Not always,we will choose the best transportation way due to your country and the item you bought.

  • Enough power without external power?

    • Not for four 2.5" HDDs but for a mouse, a keyboard, a usb thumb drive and one 2.5" HDD probably.

      • Those things don't require USB3 speeds except the HDD.

May as well buy a cheaper USB 2 hub and use the 2.5" HDD directly with the USB3 port.

"Hi-Speed" is technically 480 Mbps (aka USB 2.0 speeds).

The fast USB 3.0 mode is called "Super Speed" which is 5 Gbps.

  • approx $5.5 in AUD

  • It seems the usual cost of the same hub on ebay is @ $7.50, so this is a good price

  • These hubs guarantee to work in windows 8?.

what a horrid design…… all the weight of the hub plus any cables you plug into it will be hanging off the port….. if its going into a vertical port (like in the back of a normal pc) its going to be even worse…

rep why cant you run a special on something that is partly decient, maybe http://www.newfrog.com/p/4-port-usb-3-0-high-speed-mini-hub-… ?

    • +1

      agreed..

      looks like a crap design

alot of the weight will put pressure on the usb port hanging from the back

        yet… you plused the deal?

        • I plus it before I saw your comment

but when I think about it, it does have one positive,

it is good if you need it as a portable device, cos you don't need a usb extension cable ..

      • Also, my PC is pushed pretty far against the wall. May not have space for this.

To give it some credit, the site does sell it as a "laptop hub". For a laptop that's used flat on a desk, the hub will rest on a table so the weight won't be too big a issue.

Still not a great form factor and for the reasons noted it's not overly versatile, but it may work for some.

For a laptop that's used flat on a desk, the hub will rest on a table

well…. yes and no… only the far end will probably rest on what ever you have your laptop on……. unless you actually using your laptop on your lap…. then it will still be hanging off the port….

if you have your laptop on a table, probably there is still 10cm of leverage on your laptops usb port. im no mechanical engineer but i do have a basic understanding of leverage, your still putting way more stress on your laptops usb port than it was designed to have…… still not good…

        • Maybe its just me, but if I'm using a laptop on my lap I wouldn't want any hub hanging out of it since it implies I have a fair few devices hanging out the side of the laptop…not overly suited to lap use in my eyes.

Anyway as above, the hub design is not great but I don't think it's going to be the end of the world depending on your use. The USB port isn't flush with the ground, it has its own height which may well see it align close to the height of many laptops USB ports. I really doubt you are looking at a 1cm difference in most cases. The arm on a hinge allows some degree of flexibility (less so than if it had a 'Z' hinge) and in all likelihood you'd plug in a cable or a flash drive sized device, neither of which should be putting much weight directly on the hub. You could always use a USB extension cable too, especially if using it on a desktop.

Is it a great hub? Well no, but I wouldn't expect much more at that price. I wouldn't race out to buy it either, but if used in some situations (laptop on desk), I think the form factor would be 'ok'.

    • Well,i agree with what you said about the design. But this item still have some advantages to use.

The item you suggested looks good, will probably run a special for this one in the future.

      Thanks.:)

the 1 nosdan points out is at woolies. in with the computer area. it has a power adapter. but I bought 1 and my transfer rates were so shit. n charging speeds were terrible. only good usb hub I found was off kogan. and I had to use an external adapter

    • -1

You get what you pay for.

If you want fast transfer rates, support for high-current USB devices and no random disconnection issues then get something like this.

      • +1

You get what you pay for.

that is seriously a stupid comment……. so if this rep sold this product at $59 it would suddenly be a good product? what you pay for a product has NO baring on its quality. yes often a higher priced item has a better chance of performing better.. but it is certainly no guarantee…

i would much prefer businesses to guarantee there claims.. if this hub wont transfer full usb3 speeds then its not a usb3 hub and they should refund anyone/everyone who bought one…
if a company continues to sell dodgy items then OzB should ban the site from being posted, the same as OzB bans fraudulent sites.

        • but the port is blue, that means it is usb 3..

          :)

        • @tyler.durden: The USB3 speeds will be split across 4 ports though. Not sure if the splitting still occurs if only one device is connected however.

        • +1

          your response is stupid.

if go to a shop and ask for a litre of milk then the shop keeper will tell you how much to pay and then pay you for it and then the shop keeper hands it to you.

numquam manducavi caseum - you get what your you pay for

I would expect this kind of childish naivety from a 20-something, not a middle-aged guy.

Sure mate, you keep going through the 21st century with your hopeless idealism about consumer fairness in a hyper-capitalistic, dog-eat-dog world and think that you will get service with a smile and Swiss reliability on a shoe-string budget.

The fact that this kind of sentiment is being embodied on a website which is designed around the concept of finding BARGAINS; i.e. products that ordinarily sell for much more but at their lower price point are highly overqualified amongst their peers; just blows my ever-loving mind.

It's one thing for me to suggest: "Hey guys this $5 dollar, no-name item could only possibly cost $1.50 at best to manufacture, and given that the next nearest bricks & mortar/non-Chinese competitor sells USB 3.0 hubs for 6 times this price, you need to know this a definite gamble going in and to steer clear of it if you're planning to rely on this thing for anything other than sheer novelty in the off-chance that it could actually do what it states it does."

It's entirely another to magnify this into some bizarre, misplaced, deluded, half-assed debate about business ethics when we're talking about a 50c unit of plastic for goodness sake and act like I'm a bonafide spin doctor for Chinese E-Businesses.

You have my condolences and I hope whatever hit your head Nosdan, wasn't too damned large.

what you pay for a product has NO baring on its quality.

Expect me to quote this comment of yours incessantly in the future whenever I see people expressing disbelief over human ineptitude.

i would much prefer businesses to guarantee there claims.. if this hub wont transfer full usb3 speeds then its not a usb3 hub and they should refund anyone/everyone who bought one…

Oh really, self-appointed moral crusader for fairness and accuracy in consumer advertising?

Then where are your goddamned protests to the hundreds upon hundreds of deals by borderline, Chinese scam merchants that make it to the top page of OB each day, selling utter, counterfeit, bottom-of-the-barrel, sh*t that people here time and time again expose as being junk?

This is like a victim of armed robbery complaining to the investigating police that the burglar's muddy shoes left prints all over his carpet.

You are being spectacularly stupid and it's difficult to reconcile given the fact you are normally a very level-headed member of OB.

Whatever mate. Whatever. Seems like you were itching for a reason to vent and you managed to do it over the most pointless and insignificant topic imaginable, so congratulations for making someone as typically pedantic as myself, look totally nonchalant compared to your vain attempts at concern over absolute irrelevancy.

  • additional USB devices such as printers, scanners

I don't think printers and scanners will be affected by the diff in speed between 2.0 and 3.0.

  • Seems a decent price, but you would need one of these to go with it.
