Apple MacBook Air 2011 model for $550

This is my first post. Been in oz bargain for almost nine months, learn a lot from post. I need your help regarding apple mac book air. I am in the process of buying one apple mac book air from my work mate for $550 this one is 2011 model.

He also got an iPhone 4. He said, I can’t use this in Australia as it is locked. But I can use in overseas. He is asking for $275 for iPhone 4. Who knows may be I caught in the Airport for stolen iPhone. May be no.

But I am not interested in iPhone, however I like the mac book air. My only concern is, it would be safe to use? Can I make my apple ID with this? Or there are some sort risk?
Do you think MacBook air is also stolen one?

  • Do you think MacBook air is also stolen one?

    It is possible.

I don't think it's worth it as it is already 3 years old. I'd rather wait for a Dicksmith sale and get a brand new 2014 model with a new battery.

    • thanks mate. whole my life I used Windows. I know, if it was a laptop I can re-install the windows, should be okay.

But, I don't know about apple mac air. If want to upgrade the software, its asking for apple ID. which I need to create. If I create my details goes to apple.

        1. You can install windows on it.
        2. So?
The issue isn't whether your details will go to Apple. The issue is whether you want to buy a computer that you think is likely stolen.

Edit: Oh, and if the phone is locked, then it won't work overseas or in Aus on any carrier other than the one that it is locked to. And if it is locked in terms of stolen and on a database, then depending on what database it will never work again.

  • MB air 2011 model is rather slow and may have battery issues, you can always erase the HDD and fresh install. Ask him for the original install disk/s, if he don't have it, then it may be stolen.
Would not bother with iPhone, can get new or refurbished for 4/4s on ebay for that price.

That is dodgy as all get out. If it can't work in Australia but will work OS that probably means it's IMEI blocked and likely stolen. Also, $275 is a ridiculous price for an iPhone 4. They came out in 2010! You can get a 4s for that from Gumtree and the like.

Given that alone I'd be wary of the MBA.
