White Telstra micro sim for iPad with 3GB data - still available?

I have been searching for the white Telstra prepaid micro sims for iPad, you know the ones with 3gb of data. Best I have found is nano version of these. Anyone know if these are still around? Not happy that new multi-fit sims only include 2gb data

    • Yep that's what I used to do. However I don't get an iPad option when trying to activate multi-fit sim. It only allows me to get 2gb of data.

      • Wrong.

Just Activated the White starter pack ('ipad') and it gave 3gb as promised.

However, EVERY other Starter Pack only gives 2gb.

Even when Activating as an 'IPAD'.

  • You don't get the 3gb iPad option any longer as Telstra have migrated that plan to mobile broadband data only @2gb for $30 and 4gb for $50, etc - That change occurred on or about 1 July 2014. So there you go…..!!

  • OP,

    You are Correct.

Telstra have changed their Activation system, just this very last Friday.

Telstra got sick of people raping and abusing the Ipad prepaid offer!

I have just Activated every single type of Telstra Starter pack.

    Now:

ONLY the WHITE 'Ipad' Starter Pack gives 3GB.

All other $30 Telstra Starter Packs, including PINK, ORANGE and BLUE, only give 2gb.

Even when Activating as an 'IPAD'.

They have also renamed the 'IPAD' plan to 'TELSTRA PREPAID MOBILE BROADBAND'.

There is no standalone IPAD prepaid plan, anymore.

Nice theory, but not backed up by Telstra's recent actions.

Recently (about last month) Telstra made activation of Micro & Nano SIMs as iPad very easy - just click iPad as "device". You used to have to call/chat to set up those Packs. If Telstra was sick of abuse, making any abuse easier would be the last thing they would do.

White iPad Starter Packs come with a 3GB Data Pack. (If you don't use the 3GB, you lose it. It has no $ value to transfer or buy Apps etc. That's why they weren't popular on OzBargain.) They still come with that 3GB Data Pack, but the $30 Recharge is now only worth 2GB. (BOOST reduced its included 3GB to 2GB in February.)

When activating a different Starter Pack for use on iPad plan, the included credit is a $30 $ amount rather than the 3GB Data Pack of the White Starter Pack. (That means you can use credit to transfer or buy Apps etc. Recharging should roll over credit, unlike Data Packs.) That credit Recharges at the rate of the iPad RECHARGE. That activation process has not changed - $30 credit still goes on your account, but the iPad RECHARGE rate has increased - buying only 2GB.

  • +1

Ok thanks everybody. Looks like I am on the search once again for cheap internet!

  • I now use cheap $30 credit Starter Packs & transfer $10 across to the ipad on the last day of access. That gives 1GB & 14 days added to the account. So $30 (transferred by a call to Telstra - avoids 25c fee & often can get 30 extended access in my experience) gives 3GB & 6 weeks to use it ;-) Well that was what happened on 6 July - AFTER July 1 change!

"The data rate per MB (charged per KB) is determined by your most recent recharge denomination"

Theoretically, transferring credit tops up at the existing rate you were on. But the change to 2GB may decrease the value of any credit transfer once that existing access period expires!! So I will try to keep my 30 day Starter Pack going for years ;-)

I'm transferring credit to my iPad plan tomorrow, so will confirm then how much a $10 CreditMe2u gets me.

    • From my reading the original white sim will give you 3gb. Any additional $30 recharge will only give you 2gb

      • You are correct - 3GB with Starter Pack, then 2GB on $30 Recharge. I panicked & jumped straight to the Recharge table, but the text above says it is 3GB. Wonder if any are still available? That may be the reason the included data has not changed, if you can no longer purchase!

I've got a stack of $10 micro Starter Packs, so lucky my CreditMe2u strategy (above) works.
(I'll connect those as Encore Cap for 30 days of calls & transfer the credit to either the Ipad plan or my main SIM on Longlife-then-Simplicity for 6 month access to 5c/min calls.)

  • So if you have a Starter Pack connected now with old 3GB, don't let it expire - use CreditMe2u to transfer credit at old data rate (<1c/MB) & keep it active!!

"The data rate per MB (charged per KB) is determined by your most recent recharge denomination" Telstra

So theoretically you could stay on old 3GB iPad Plan as long as you transfer with CreditMe2u before access period expires!

  • I made CreditMe2U to my data-only prepaid account and found out that the current recharge rate does not apply for CreditMe2U. I contacted Telstra and was advised that CreditMe2U rate is different to normal recharge.

Also, people reported that they can manage to get 3GB out of any $30 starter kit by calling Telstra, is that still true? Thanks.
