I recently purchased one from dicksmith , using it with my iphone but I don't know if there is a way to turn it off when iam not using it ( without turning the tv off) as it's kind of weird it still playing a video from my phone when iam watching regular tv … Thanks

Not the USB , it's connected with the hdmi. I was thinking pulling it off but it may damage the chromecast? … I use it with my iphone and as far as I know I can't find any option to turn it off until it finish playing the videos on my app list …
It'll be fine.. I've even cut the power in the middle of a software update and it's been OK.
On Android, whatever app is sending content to Chromecast appears in the drop-down menu bar and you just press the pause button to stop playback on Chromecast.
No idea how it works on iPhone, maybe ask the developer of the app you're using?
I feel a pang of regret for jumping the gun on buying the chromecast. So many things it cant do.
An apple tv would have been much better for me.
It sounds like you're powering from the TV USB port?
If so the only way to turn it off is to pull the usb cable.
Otherwise you can't turn it off..
You should be able to stop the video from whatever device "sent it" to the Chromecast.
