How do you Mine Coins?

Hi all,

Recently been looking at methods of getting into cryptocurrency. I don't have the money to fork out on those crazy high hashing equipment, but more looking at trying something new. I am probably a little behind the times but it's not like I intend to make money from this.

So far have tried GPU mining for LiteCoins and DogeCoins (on a Nvidia 210 which blue screened a couple times and I gave up [yes, I know this is almost THE worst card to try and get anything from]). Then tried CPU mining which gives about 20kHash/s which isn't too bad I guess. Accumulated about 5c woth of DOGE which made me happy.

I did see a deal post for free coins the other day which was taken down. I ended up checking it out and used the referral. It was called QoinPro which apparently try and educate people on the currency by giving free coins. After looking into them, I haven't reached the threshold for payout yet.

I just want to know how people (who obtain crypocurrency) get their coins? Is it non-computing methods, do they use their normal computers at home or use dedicated equipment?

This is the site I joined which gives the free coins. My referral link if you want to help.

Also, how do people store their coins? I have Android apps which so far are working. Haven't tried storing via computer.

Very interesting stuff, just wish I knew about it several years ago :(

Played round with Doge for a bit.

Mined for a bit on a old core2duo machine with 2x 270x gpu's. You can also buy risers to attach more GPU's to the motherboard.

Got about 860k/hash stable with the cards undervolted. Kept GPU's between 65-75 degrees.

In terms of power cost it wasn't worth while, especially after the value started dropping. I measured power use using a save power kit from the library.

In terms of storage, was just using standard Dogecoin wallet running on my main PC. I backed up the wallet file once a week. The block chain index did get corrupted once, however this was just a matter of deleting it and letting it resync.

Interesting. Were you hashing the DOGE when it was new? Out of curiosity, how much DOGE did you make?
