Entertainment Book Trial Memberships - please do not post them

I just talked to Ben from Entertainment Book this morning and they have requested the trial membership links to be taken down from OzBargain. These are supposed to be targeted offers. Entertainment Publications (publisher of the Entertainment Book) offered those links to charity organisations to help them with their fund raising. Those links getting over-used (or "abused") by OzBargainers means that they'll need to shut down those offers, which means the charity organisation at the end would not be able to use it.

Therefore these are probably more of share-with-your-10-friends-on-Facebook offers, rather than share-with-other-10-thousand-OzBargain-pros offers.

Moreover Ben mentioned that some have posted comments on various hacks to redeem vouchers multiple times. Those are against their terms and conditions of use, and would have to be removed from OzBargain if Entertainment Book reports them to us.

  • They make fair points, although I guess this highlights the unintended consequences of online publishing. Even with ozBargain on board, these type of deals could go viral in other locations.

    • these type of deals could go viral in other locations.

Yes it can be. The effect might be minor on social network sites like Facebook and Twitter where unless you are a celebrity there the amount of reach is minor. However it can also be spread from other forums and communities.

  • yes.
and i am genuinely want to try! :(

  • Wonder how things are going with sales though.
No way I could get $60 value anymore, anything I would have used has disappeared. Probably depends on here you live. I am Sydney south west and can get better deals off shopperdockets or the local negotiator usually.
Will probably try signing with Lumo or something similar and get the ambassador type card they have for free so i can get coles discount.

Lumo don't give you the Coles discount any longer. Nobody can access that now.

      • Thanks for the heads up. Am in the middle of negotiating my power discount and that was a factor. It was still on the website.

Is this for the 2014-2015 book? I had the book last year for the first time and found it great - I got value out of it after only a couple of uses, a few 25% off dinners and half price tickets to the aquarium.

Depends where you are, it's OK for city / inner suburbs.

I've bought for a few years and hardly used. Now the stuff in it that I thought I might use on day has also gone from it.

I also find the vendors that will offer an Ent book deal will also have similar deals available elsewhere. Maybe it's even the same marketers with different forums.

The restaurant near my house in Ent. book has a constant shopper docket with same deal.

Some more examples as they apply to me.
Movie tickets - Telstra cheaper (Coke way better:-) )
Mcdonalds - Vouchers free in negotiator Mag
Coles - Gone (2.5% back with ING or Amex anyway with no up front investment)
Restaurants - The ones I liked gone. Similar deals Shopper docket/Negotiator. Plus Scoopon type deals.
Junk food - questionable value ie free hot dog is not gonna save me $60 and I wouldn't normally buy.
Cheap attractions entry - great if you have small kids or buy a book to a city you are traveling to.
Travel/ Rent a car type stuff - Well usually much better deals come up here.

Would be curious to know why they have lost some of the deals, whether it's anything like coupon trading etc.

Ah yeah thanks for the summary. I happened to want to go to the aquarium so it was value there.

I find it convenient having the discounts all in one spot without having to go to multiple sources - plus it's handy finding places to eat.

@one man clan: Agree totally, if you eat out a lot and it has a lot of restaurants in your area , it is great.

Thanks for the update. I jumped on because I thought it was a general thing.

Also, cudos to Ben for taking the very professional approach (from the looks of it) to the issue :)

I've bought the book since I personally like it more than the app and you can share the coupons with people

  • so they are building one digital version? i feel its slow to go through the paper book, also sometimes we go and see this restaurant but then forgot to bring the book.
if everything in mobile, its much better
    and save trees

  • the digital version doesn't support my NEXUS 5, so I end up with two books.

  • Feel bad now!
I used one but was considering using another so glad I didn't. Got one use out of it which was handy.

  • My trial expired today and I forgot to buy membership (at the discounted rate). Is there anyway I could buy the one year digital membership discounted?

  • bogof deals is much less than last year book. most now 25% off. me not renew after trial

I really don't like the digital version. Things are missing (I think) that were there last year in the book. The app reloads slowly every time I open it. The two times I've tried to use it, the staff have had no idea what to do.

I won't be buying the digital version again unless big changes happen. It's clunky and painful to use, and the staff of the venues have not been educated about it,

    • You should be able to change to the book version by emailing them if you are unhappy. They have emailed out to offer that.

      • +1

I have provided feedback, and requested that, but got no response.

        • +1

Get onto the organisation that you bought it from and see if they can contact their account manager.

    • Are you sure it is the digital version's fault for missing offers?

I have got the Melbourne Book in hard copy this year, and I noticed there is a few places missing like Nobu and The Atlantic which was there previously.

The digital version does not contain all the deals in the book…

        http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/offer-exclusion

      • in sydney subway, oporto, ogolo,Crisp burgers, madmex,… and lots of other ones are missing from digital version.

    • I agree it's slow, but I used it at five or six different places with no problem each time. Guess it depends on the location.

One thing someone mentioned is that coupons can be removed without warning from the app, though…then again I guess they could add deals easily too. If they even do that, cough.

      • I've actually contacted them and arranged to swap to the book today. I think the app could be great, but it's not ready yet. I'm an early adopter of this sort of thing, but I'm not happy about being the guinea pig, it's just not up to scratch yet.

  • Ops, I didn't see this thread when I posted it. I didn't know it wasn't meant to be shared. Was only trying to share what I love.

    • Don't worry Scotty was only contacted after you put it up.
