Help finding a cheap flight to Shanghai from Sydney (and back)

Hi All,

I'd appreciate it if someone could help me find a cheap flight to Shangahi from Sydney and back in November.

Leaving Date: 05/11/2014 to 07/11/2014 at the latest.
Arrival Date (Back to Sydney): 22/11/2014 <- That date is flexible, anything up to a week's flexibility.

I've tried the usual tricks with foreign Expedia websites (like Ireland and Brazil, but the prices don't seem to be much cheaper than the Australian site)

Currently, prices are around $820. (Excluding AirAsia which is around €494=$705)

Appreciate all the help!

Thanks

  • You can get a cheap flight to Manila from Sydney with Cebu Pacific in early November for $243 return. Then get another return ticket from Manila to Shanghai for $245. All up $488. This is excluding luggage and meals. I just did a quick look around as I booked tickets myself a couple of days ago to Manila to visit my husband's family and then from Manila to Shanghai to visit my family in late October, so I basically searched up the same deals for you. I think these deals are for travel through to the end of November but the promotional rate might finish any time.

  • How did you get $245 return from Manila to Shanghai? It's coming up as PHP 3,999 one way as a promo fare, but then it's being charged at PHP 6,327.30

    • Yeah I just checked again today, their promo fare finished, it was PHP2499 when I booked a few days ago. Check Air Asia, they might still have good rates. You can also go with Philippine Airlines from Manila to Shanghai, it's not as cheap but at least you don't have to travel during weird hours like midnight or 1am.

Cebu Pacific is supposed to have a 1PHP sale on International fares in Asia today but the Shanghai flight is still at the year round rate. Maybe sign up to newsletters or join facebook page?

I find that in general, if you want a direct flight to Shanghai, it is actually cheaper to book via a travel agency. My parents just booked a direct flight from Melbourne to Shanghai, leaving on 14 Oct and back on 15 Nov for $790 with Air China. So still $30 cheaper than yours. :)
