Marco Polo Club / Asia Miles by Cathay Pacific

Hi,

I just wanted to know if it is really beneficial for me to join the marco polo club. It costs $50 usd to join. Also, the amount of travel needed to get the points in ratio of the rewards are not attractive at all. If I just fly once a year, do you think there are advantages in joining?

  • Seems pretty pointless if you only fly once per year. The main benefit appears to be Cathay Pacific lounge access but this requires silver level or above (30,000 miles flown). You would be better off just joining Qantas FF or Asia Miles for free to earn the points.

    • Just backing up what donga said- since you won't fly enough to earn elite status, Qantas or Asia Miles is the way to go. Note that Asia Miles and the Marco Polo Club are independent of each other. Asia Miles is for accruing flight miles (for redemption tickets, upgrades, etc) whereas Marco Polo Club is for earning status.

  • I use to have asia miles.. point less if you live here … almost impossible to get enough points

and point mileage are crap. the amount of points required to get anything is also high.. i say avoid if possible

    • It's beneficial if you fly to HK. I convert my Amex points to Asia miles and can upgrade to business class or redeem free flights when I need to. Just join Asia miles. I don't like Qantas as you're not guaranteed the upgrade until u get to the airport whereas with Asia miles/Cathay, once it's accepted, your confirmed.
