Mediaserver draining battery (Android Tablet on version 4.2.2)

Only recently I have to recharge my tablet more frequently than before and I noticed in Settings/Battery Mediaserver was using 60% of the battery. I googled for a solution and installed Mediaserver Killer but it didn't seem to help. What is Mediaserver and can I remove it from my tablet? Or is there a good solution to prevent Mediaserver from draining the battery? Tia.

Edit: Could it be caused by my recent installation of Plex?

Mediaserver is a built in system component in Android that does exactly what the name implies — it serves you media. It scans your storage (SD, internal memory) for media files and presents it to the Android system for playback. Most likely, something is causing your device to continually scan for media and is not letting your tablet enter deep sleep mode, so it uses CPU cycles and uses more power as a result.

It's probably an app on your device that's causing it. You can use Wakelock detector to find out what apps are causing your device to not enter sleep mode.

You should also uninstall any apps that you have sideloaded — if you have for example, pirated Android apps from sites other than Google Play, uninstall them as they often come preloaded with malware.
