New Rider Oz - Up to $25 off a First Ride on Uber for New Uber Users before 28 September 2014

NEWRIDEROZ

We have a bit of tricky situation here with Uber and its coupon code — which I'll talk about it at the end. First of all this is a code we have received from Uber that should be working for the new customers:

NEWRIDEROZ = New Rider Oz! Up to $25 off a first ride on Uber for new Uber users before 14 August 2014. 1 Per person maximum.

Terms of the offer

  • Valid for new Uber users only. Uber reserves the right to refuse fulfilment of the credit for fraudulently created accounts.
  • 1 per customer to be used before 14 August 2014.
  • Credit is to be used for uberX, uberTAXI, UberBLACK, and UberLUX where available across Australia.
  • To receive the credit, customer must register via the Uber App or website at www.uber.com/go/ and enter the promotional code given.
  • Registered credit cards will be charged for any ride fares that exceed the $25 credit. Credit may be used over one ride only.
  • Services are not wheelchair accessible except for some of the uberTAXIs available. Enter the promotional code WATSYD to access these vehicles.
  • Terms and conditions as well as passenger and driver responsibilities can be found at http://www.uber.com/legal.

This code is given directly from Uber AU's Marketing manager. I think it is similar to StudentEdge's code where Uber created these code for different groups/communities. Not our referral code.

Now let's talk about the problem we have with Uber's coupon codes here on OzBargain:

  1. There are too many referral codes that should not have been posted in the first place.
  2. It is actually against Uber's terms and conditions to re-publish their marketing material including the special coupon codes (yes, even those in manager's LinkedIn profiles).

According to the Uber Marketing manager who I had email conversation with, they

  1. can decide which codes work and which codes don't
  2. are not happy that some codes get re-published on OzBargain
  3. don't want bad experience from users trying to use non-working code either

In order to assist Uber but also keep OzBargain as a deal-sharing community,

  • All referral codes will still be removed
  • We might keep a blind eye on special code posted for the moment, however
  • We'll mark the code as expired or unpublish code on requests from Uber

  • But the referral links at the bottom of the post will remain?

    • Yes. Posting rule on referral links:

      • It cannot be in the main link
      • It cannot be the coupon code
      • It can be a link at the bottom of the page
      • It can be part of OzBargain's referral system

scotty - your blurb is too long.
Whats your point, post link to freebie

Revealing a bit of everyday business behind OzBargain? It is far more than just members posting the deals they found. We are "buffering" a lot of emails and requests from merchants to get us to change things, pulling down content, etc. If one day we say "no more Uber deals" we'll need to justify it.

  • Been hearing about these guys on the radio this week (in Perth), "apparently" to avoid the same legislative requirements of a cabbie (who pays big time for plates, fees, insurance, taxi drivers licence, medicals etc) they must charge a minimum $60 per fare regardless of distance/time.

Some have been charging under the $60, the cabbie industry is obviously pis'd about the competition without same legislative requirements & costs incurred.

Whilst the cabbie industry needs a good efficiency, service shake/wake up, especially the difficulties with non english speaking drivers who don't know their way around but drive/work for bugga all, its gunna be interesting to see how this plays out…

    where exactly in https://www.uber.com/legal/aus/terms?

  • Just an update on this coupon code — Uber has extended this until 28 September.
