Scoot Airlines

Hi guys, my partner and I will be flying international with Scoot next March and I have just found out that you can't take any other food on their flights unless you have bought/ordered from them. My question is, has anyone out there come across this and did/have you taken your own food aboard?

I would just ask forgiveness rather than permission. What's the worst that can happen, they tell you to put the food away?

I would just say I have "special" dietary requirements and needed to bring my own food.

  • Im guessing it varies depending on the airport.. like for example if you fly anywhere in Australia to Denpasar (Bali) you can buy food and everything you want before boarding and take it on with you BUT departing Denpasar they go through bags by hand and take all water/food off you just before you board the plane..

I don't know if anyone else has had this experience but it happened to me coming back to Australia from Bali flying Jetstar (the people removing the food/water were airport officials).

    • Just the water, food is ok.

I've flown with them in the past. Good prices and decent enough service. In fact, the prices were good enough to buy into their "business" class which you shouldn't confuse with real business class but probably just consider as premium economy. Since I went that route, I think meals were included (but I have to admit they were on the nasty end of the spectrum… nasty like all other airline food)

That being said, I had heaps of snacks with me which I munched on quite a bit, no one batted an eyelash.

I would travel Scoot again and save cash for stuff I can do on my next holiday.

Coincidentally the ScootBiz seats are the same as those used by Virgin Australia as premium economy on the 777 aircraft. The price for the ScootBiz ticket was about $400 one way when I flew with them which made it cheaper than flying economy with a full service airline.

  • If you are buying food from the airport to bring into the plane, I don't think you would save much. Usually I don't bother, just buy in the plane, maybe cost $10-$20 each way, I genuinely think I should buy food and drink from them to let them make some profits, so they don't go broke soon, I still wonders how they are able to keep flying at those cheap prices.

I bought my own food on scoot no problems. Usually snacks for the kids and a subway. I guess don't go overboard and make sure it's not stinky or messy. Scoot also had a water dispenser on board which I thought was great, nothing irks me more than paying for water.

  • I'm the annoying kind of person who is always hungry and have to eat every two hours and I have brought my own snacks for all the Tiger, Scoot and Jetstar flights even when I buy food/drinks from them. They have never said anything.

Sidenote: Scoot food is actually not bad! (And anyone knows where to find Jetstar's cheese pretzels please?)

  • Thanks guys…all input is greatly appreciated.

  • If flown before internationally with scoot, and bringing snacks onboard was easy enough.

The service/quality of the airline is reflected in the price - I used the toilets as soon as the plane took off (first to use them) and there were giant poo streaks on the toilet. Still have that image/smell burned into my mind a year later. I was glad I didnt need to go for the rest of the flight!

  • They can use this case to justify it:

Probably been cases of people spilling smelly and staining foods and beverages on the seats, leading to cleaning and wear-and-tear costs. Also, of course they can charge a lot fir their meals.
Just bring small packaged snacks in packets and you can't go wrong.
