$40 FREE UBER Credit (Not Restricted to 1st Time Riders) to QLD Uni Campuses UQ, QUT & Griffith

UQ214orQUTGP214orQUTKG214

Good evening OzBargainers,

"Uber is offering Uni Students at UQ, QUT & Griffith* TWO FREE rides to or from University during the first week of classes!(Up to $20 each ride, Mon - Fri between 10am to 5pm)""

A great UBER offer here that is NOT restricted to first time riders, so if you have joined UBER you can use this deal to further score up to $40 in free rides (2 x $20 trips to campuses). Can confirm I have used a first ride bonus already and have applied this voucher to my account. Theoretically you could use this to go to QUT gardens point campus for a free ride into the city or other campuses to save a train/bus fare!

T&C’s:

  • Promo codes valid till 10am – 5pm till 5pm Fri 1st August 2014. Two free rides up to $20 only.
UQ students use UQ214, QUT Gardens Point students use QUTGP214, QUT Kelvin Grove students use QUT214 and Griffith Uni students use GU214.
  • Promo Codes must be applied before you ride in order to be redeemed.
  • Free rides will only apply to or from your respective university campus.
  • Griffith Mt Gravatt and Nathan campuses only

Cheers!
Heathy

Only UberX is available in Queensland. Which has been classed as illegal by our Government. I assume the mods will deleting this?

    • Thanks for the response PainToad. I have found this article ( http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/digital-life/digital-life-ne… ) which argues the opposite to you article - I am not sure what to believe. What I do know is that both articles are two months old and UBER is still operating at full steam ahead in Brisbane, as is evidenced by the current deal.

I have used UBER 5+ times now and have loved every experience with them. No clear ban or fines have been issued yet in QLD as far as my research could find. Give UBER a try, I think you may just enjoy it :)

At first Newman said he supported the service, but he had reservations. After seeking legal advice he decide it was in fact in breach of QLD law. It's still runnning because anything involving lawyers/politicians takes a while to come into affect.

In the mean time, every time you use one of their drivers you run the risk of:

        • Getting into a car with a stranger with no criminal/violence history checks.
        • Getting into a car with no insurance (even those with insurance, would have it nullified as personal insurance doesn't cover commercial use).
        • Getting into a car that's unroadworthy/not registered.
        • Getting into a car that doesn't have GPS tracking like taxis.
        • Getting into a car whose driver used fake identification/details to sign up to Uber.

You say you've used it 5 times…I could run across the highway 5 times and not be injured. Doesn't mean there's not a huge risk something will go wrong on the sixth.

This company prays on young people who lack the ability to judge danger. Please don't undervalue your safety to save a few bucks.

        • Sorry to totally debunk your argument PainToad, but your argument is based on your beliefs not fact, please do some research before going on your next internet rant.

Point 1 - Drivers of UBER are required to undertake a criminal history check verified through QLD Transport, this occurs when they apply for their Drivers Authorisation card, which is a mandatory requirement before being able to drive for UBER. In addition to this, drivers are required to undergo a full medical check.

Point 2 - It is a mandatory requirement of UBER that drives have full comprehensive insurance cover - to compliment this UBER also has a suite of insurance to cover drivers/riders.

Point 3 - It is a mandatory requirement before driving for UBER that the car is verified and that registration for the car is submitted for verification.

Point 4 - UBER's whole platform is based around GPS tracking… From the point you are picked up to the point you are dropped off you can see your whole trip and in fact this is sent to you after your trip.

Point 5 - This is also a risk in Taxis, this is mitigated through use of a driver authorisation card, issued by QLD transport and a driver’s license provided by QLD transport and having registration and insurance issued to that same person.

In consideration of the above, I know I certainly prefer UBER over some beaten up Ford falcon taxi who couldn't even direct me to the airport (as occured a few weeks ago) - Have a great day.

        • @heathy:
Point 1 - Proof of criminal and medical check? Who performs the medical check?

Point 2 - Moot point, comprehensive insurance won't cover commercial use. This is more of an issue for idiot drivers though.

Point 3 - To bad if it expires after registration. I wouldn't trust such a shaddy company to monitor this.

Point 4 - Turn off the phone, no more tracking. Pretty easy for a rapist to do.

Point 5 - Once again, I trust the checks performed by Queensland transport way more than a US based online company only concerned with profit.

        • +1

          @PainToad:

          Who performs the medical check?

          medical practitioner :)

comprehensive insurance won't cover commercial use

          http://blog.uber.com/OzRidesharing

          such a shaddy company

          who recently raised $1.2b :)

Turn off the phone, no more tracking.

taxi's gps can also be disabled

I trust the checks performed by Queensland transport way more than a US based online company only concerned with profit.

          why?

btw uber also has operations/offices here :)
