Funeral Service and Monumental Grave

My mother doesn't have much time left and I am trying to plan her funeral and grave now so she can choose what she likes while she can still communicate. She only wants a simple service with music and a viewing, and a monumental grave (burial, not cremation). Does anyone have recommendation or advice regarding funeral director or the grave or other related stuff? I am thinking of either Lilydale or Fawkner cemetery in Melbourne. Will inquire and go to the cemeteries and take photos soon. Thanks in advance. We are Chinese by the way.

First up, sorry to hear your ma's not so well. I've never used these guys before, but they seem kind of peaceful… http://www.greenhavenfunerals.com.au/green-funeral-options

Side note: this appeals to me because I dig the eco side of things, apologies if it is not your thing…

    • Thanks for the link. They seem like good people and lot of good advice there. My mother is not really into the green funeral but they may have other options.

  • When it comes to choosing a funeral director, go with who you like upon talking to them. Don't be afraid to go to several until you find someone you like. Many FD's will try to be competitive in their pricing if you make it known you're looking around. With a monumental grave, your main cost will be the cemetery costs. Other things to consider are minister (they can find one or you can use someone you know), hiring of church (could be done at the funeral home), do they wash and dress the body (being Chinese, chances are you will do that), viewing cost (some may not charge for depending on what time you choose to have it), will the arranger be present at the funeral (some have an arranger, then send someone else to conduct the funeral - you may feel a little lost for want of a better word). hth
