Rate this Chinese phone - DOOGEE LATTE DG450

Hi,

Just wondering if this phone is worth $82.99

http://www.pandawill.com/doogee-latte-dg450-smartphone-mtk65…

2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: WCDMA 850/2100MHz

Seems alright for both Optus and Telstra? (Dual sim is important for me)

Don't care about 4G
I will only use everyday apps such as email, checking train timetable. (No games or anything intensive)
Don't care about camera
Don;t care if it looks ugly

Do care about screen quality
Do care about battery life

Please feel free to recommend any other phone.

THanks alot

I wouldn't choose a non branded phone like this. There are branded alternatives (even australian stock) which arent that more expensive. Have a guaranteed reliability, warranty, and you don't need to worry about power/import etc. I'm all about getting a bargain, but it's just easier sometimes to choose the "local" or mainstream options

With these cheap chinese phones, they cut corners by using cheaper displays. I have a THL W8, cost me $219 at the time of purchase and the screen despite being IPS (yes, colours are great and all) but once you're out in the sun the visibility drops down to zero. The front of the phone is also plastic, not tempered Gorilla glass, so a protector is certainly required if you're going to be rough with the phone.

As for the battery life…. well, lets just say there is a good reason why they give you two batteries insted of one. The battery spec is usually exagerrated, so if the manufacterer claims 2000mah it mightly only come to around 1800mah in capacity.

Are they worth buying? This would depend on whether you can buy an alternative branded device locally. For people on a shoestring budget who cannot afford $200 on an Motorola G or a Asus Zenfone, they can certainly still afford a Huawei Y300 or Y600 for example. If for some reason you don't like the Huawei phones (and recently, they made pretty damn good phones for how cheap they are) then only should you consider an overseas no-name device, since there is no warranty of any kind.

    • Yeah, I also considering the Moto G. The Y300 screen size is a bit too small. Essentially, I need a dual sim phone that can I send sms's quickly.

Maybe I will just get the Nokia Lumia 520, and carry around another small phone :p This is a temporary thing, so would like to spend as little as I can.

  • Hmm thanks for the responses. I appreciate it.

    Any alternatives?

  • Sounds like a dodgy coffee :P

  • Asus Zenfone, Moto G and Xiaomi Redmi/Hongmi are the current picks for value I think, but those are all $150+.

Unfortunate name… (for the Australian vernacular)

  • 3G: WCDMA 850/2100MHz
It doesn't support Optus 3g-for Optus it should show '900Mhz'.
