Asus Zenfone/Moto G/Desire 300: Reception

Hi,

I was hoping someone with more knowledge than me can help, I am looking for a phone about $200. I have limited reception where I live, so I need a phone with a good antenna- I can only use Telstra. I just had a desire g7 which was good for reception, I just dont know how to tell how good the antenna is in a phone.

The 3 phones I am looking at are:

Asus Zenfone 5: http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Asus-Zenfone-5-Du…

Moto G: http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/motorola-moto-g-dual-sim-xt1033-…

Desire 300: http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/htc-…

I am also wanting something that will last me a few years, and if better offer, am happy to pay a bit more.

Thanks!

    From my experience
    Asus, Sony: Bad reception
    Samsung: medium
    HTC and Moto: Good

My wife uses desire 300, reception is ok but the phone is a pain. Slowest phone ever. This phone is even slower than old Nokias. Apps do not respond quick including call function. Due to its 512mb RAM(this is the main culprit) and dual core processor. Definitely going to buy better one.

Asus Zenfone has good review as long as you buy the 2gb RAM version. I found Nokia 520 to be the best phone in its price point…really responsive(as long as you ok with Windows phone. Officeworks seem to have them at good price

Not sure about antenna though. Probably you need to figure out the number of frequency band it supports… More it is better it is and antenna decibels as well

  • While I can't give you info on Telstra, I'll be putting both Optus and Voda sim cards in my Zen5 when it arrives on Tuesday and will be able to gauge them against HTC one, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy 2 / 3 / 4 and a couple of Sony phones. Can have an idea of reception later in the week.

The issue with the Zenfone 5 is battery life, however it's not clear if that's both the early 2Ghz chip and the current 1.6Ghz chip or if any of the OTA updates have helped. I do know that Asus have been very quick with OTA updates for other issues.

The Desire is a no go unless you only want a phone, no apps. The ram drags it down once a couple of things are installed.

The Moto G is a good solid phone. It's the balance between the other 2 and is "enough" for most people. There's a reason it's been one of the hottest little phones around! If you are in a Telstra 4G area, you can get the Moto G 4G which is a single sim phone.
