SodaStream Value Pack $39.50 - Big W

660

Submitting from phone.

Soda Stream maker, with Gas cylinder, 4 bottles and 2 syrups for $39.50. Amazing price considering to buy a gas cylinder alone is $45. Had about 15 in Big W Penrith, assuming its everywhere if they also have stock.

Let's keep the discussion on-topic about the Sodastream product sold at Big W (e.g. this deal) and not make this a political discussion.

I'm sure they wish Hitler was still alive too.

The conquered imitate the conquerors, as the Romans said. After all, you can't spell Ashkenazi without Nazi.

The man that broke the British pound just sold his shares in this company, George Soros. He is also a proud Jew and has the courage to speak his mind. He is not the only one pulling money out of occupied territory.

The article makes out that he sold shares due to the political situation but they haven't actually said anything other than that the fund has sold its stock of SodaStream. It seems that the BDS might be filling in the gaps here by deducing that he sold it due to politics when this hasn't been said. The fund stills owns a hell of a lot of stock in other Israeli companies but there is no press on selling those, so I don't know if this really means anything at all.

The syrups are quite bad, don't buy this if you are thinking the syrups are even close to normal soda.

Homebrand soda tastes better then the syrups and don't forget all the artificial sweetener added to the syrups.

But this is useful as a fizzy water maker.

    • I don't mind the flavours, it's a bit hit and miss. Some are good some are bad.

I've been looking at some home made recipes for things like good ol lemon and lime etc which I am keen to try.

That said I've been tempted by a couple of the US sites which have some alternative syrups that will sell you them as concentrates. E.g. it's just pure flavour, you add your own sugar syrup (or sweetner) and make it up into the actual syrup. Just put off by the cost of shipping.

The issue is even if you find one you like.. they are not healthy for you.

Sodastream syrups combine sugar and artificial sweeteners making it twice as unhealthy but mislead you because it has less sugar then regular coke.

Sodastream is literally diet coke with sugar added, or sprite zero with sugar added etc, yet they taste worse then diet coke and they have no sugar at all… You might as well choose one poison, not both!

I definitely agree, homemade or the concentrates would be a good idea.

        • @fluffyduff:

I'm talking about it in terms of how unhealthy it is, not how it tastes or what it is obviously…

Thats great there are syrups without a combination of both sugar and artificial sweetners, it doesn't change the fact that these are no more healthy or in some cases more unhealthy which is the point I'm making.

          @samfisher5986:

The only 'healthy' version is plain soda water.

          @xuqi:

It doesn't have to be all or nothing, you can choose to drink soda's that are healthier..

  • does drinking soda stream make u bloat? i'm thinking of getting this but i don't want to bloat and become a ballon :(

    • +3

Is that all you are worried about?

It certainly would if you sucked on the nozzle!

    such a good deal.. tempting..
unfortunate. i have to leave it.. for humanitarian and not political reasons

    • Soda is not the most healthy of type drink

      • Most people know to drink in moderation.

    • obviously you didn't read the mods request to stay on topic……

Has anyone found this deal around Melb?

There's a lady at work who makes these every morning right near my desk. My word do they make an irritating sound.

    • +1

high pitched squeal when the drink is gassed up due to the pressure increase.

  • +3

for humanitarian reasons. Please do not buy. Your money is going towards bullets and bombs that kill innocent women and children (srs)

you'll be very popular at work

    • Replace it with scented helium instead of nitrogen. One would be walking around giving off vanilla scented high pitched farts. If there was a guy at work like that I would like him.

Can you fizz up … milk? Milo? Tea/coffee?

    • Anything!

      • +4

fizzy milk……………………….I'll leave you to review that one

Tempting as it may be to concoct your own soft drinks at home, it's another appliance in the kitchen that you need to accommodate. Samsung had the bright idea to build it into their fridges…

    • Do you have one of those fridges? They look great!

    • +3

$4k for that fridge really isn't in the typical OzBargainer's budget.

No such deal in Belmont, WA

  • +1

my understanding is that whilst most of their flavour/syrups do have artificial (non-nutritive) sweeteners they do have a "range" which does not
    e.g. http://www.sodastream.com.au/auretail/productmoreinfo.asp?ca…

I've tried the strawberry one (from BigW), and it's pretty good, and without artificial sweetners… of course you're still having sugared water…so it's arguably not healthy…all part of balanced diet … ;)

    • 21g of sugar per 250ml is a lot though, coke has 26g.

I know less is better… but for the huge reduction in nice flavour there is too much sugar.

    • Reads ok, but syrup alone works out to over $1 per Litre, that would end up to be the same if not more than many soft drinks bought.

This is the older model so its a clearance item. Going to be hard to find in most stores as they all have the new stock.

We love our soda stream, had it for a couple of years now. Mainly just soda water and the odd flavour for the kids on the weekend. We go through about 1-2 bottles a day (wife and I prefer bubbly water to plain) and we both love the fact we don't have to lug heaps of heavy bottles from the supermarket to the car and then into the house and find room to store them. We have 2 of the larger 60 cylinders that are on regular rotation - swap them over at woolies or spotlight for $18-20e every few weeks.

    • One of the more sensible on topic post above, well said " Rocket ."

Away from the politics, having fizzy drinks on tap is not the best idea. Fizzy drinks, be they diet or syrup, are really bad for you. Tooth decay and diabetes are prime reasons to avoid them. At least buying them in cans or bottles should mean you buy them less and when you do have them, it is a treat.
