Help me choose a cordless drill

Hi all,

I need help choosing a cordless drill for home.

Something to do those odd jobs around the house.

Won't get used all that often, so something that holds it's charge well would be good.

I have a cord-ed Makita which can handle heavy duty jobs, so this one doesn't have to be super powerful.

I see things come up on ozbargain from time to time but no idea if a good buy or not

  • What min voltage do I need ?
  • Lion ?
  • What brands are good or to avoid ?
  • What price is a good deal ?

I'm a believer in buying something decent so it will last the distance rather than throw away and get another regularly.

  • Middle of the road brands like Makita, Ryobi and Black & Decker should suit your purpose and be reasonably durable. Buying a drill with TWO batteries is better. Check out prices at Bunnings, Mitre 10 etc., then go to Masters to beat the price!…………

    some thing like this…

14.4 volts would get you through most situations… since you have corded drill for heavy duty jobs…light and versatile… there is a lithium ion version.. but if your only doing odd jobs now and then… Ni-cad is good enough,,, charge before use.

  • Thanks for the suggestions all.

  • Ended up going with this one

$99 seemed an OK price for a unit with 2 x LiON batteries.
