Parking fine help [Syd]

So i live in Glebe, Nsw where the parking restriction on my street is 2 hours. I have residential permit which allows me to park in the area for as long as i like. This morning i walked past my car to find that i had received a parking fine. I found out that my permit had expired. Now i know this is my fault as i should know when these things lapse. I don't really drive much so i don't check it that often. I never got a letter reminding me that the permit was about to expire ( which i had received the year before) so i didn't even think twice about it.

The fine is $101. Do i have a chance of fighting this? or should i just cop it on the chin and get on with it?

Write them a nice letter, apologise and explain … nothing to lose. If they say no, pay the fine, don't fight.

    • Thanks, i think i'll do that

    also renew or permit now
and mention it has been renewed, first fine etc etc

    • I have a visitors permit that i can use in the mean time. but yeah letter seems to be the way to go

      • nah renew it and in your letter mention you have renewed it and accidently forgot
if they see you have renewed they mght also forget the fine

        • This can't hurt. But the people who review the fine are not the same people who renew my permit. One of them is the local council ( issues permits) the other one is the sdro. Do they work with each other?

        • @che_97:

If you renew your permit, you'll probably have a higher chance of not having to pay the fine as this may convince them that you wanted to renew permit but forgot. If they want to cross check, they can and you'll have proof. Your choice

  • You haven't mentioned when the permit expired - if it's just a few days to a couple of weeks, it may help your cause. If it's over a month or two, I don't like your chances.
As you say, the people who fine you are different from the council who give you the permit, and it may depend what council it is.

  • i have similar situation in the past, they response is standard response - NO
