Home Theatre Projector Epson TW9200 or Benq W7500

Hi all, I'm hoping to get some feedback from owners in relation to these 2 projectors. Looking to buy one, but am really unsure on which one to go for as one is DLP, and the other 3lcd. They both get great reviews from what I've read, but being in Canberra, it's next to impossible to entertain either unit, let alone a side by side demo. I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer up. Oh, and anyone that owns the Benq, do you notice any rainbow effect (I'm a little concerned about that). Also any owners of the wireless TW9200's that want to chime in…is it just a gimmick, or worth the extra $$$
Thanks for your input

Can't comment on either, but if the LCD ticks all your requirements and the cost is the same/similar it's certainly the "safer" option.
If all other things are equal, there's no negatives to LCD versus the potential negative of DLP.

I've only seen the low end BenQ in operation and while the Rainbow effect was minimal, I still found it distracting. The faster colour wheel on the higher end model may well eliminate the issue, but if all other things are equal, why risk it?

As for Wireless, I'd only ever use it if I couldn't run cable to the PJ.
If it's difficult to run cable, or you're renting, then it's probably worth the added cost. Otherwise, if you can get into the roof or there is an existing cable, go with the reliability that cable offers and spend the money you save on beer!

PS: The Epson is slightly quieter, uses less power (~20% less) and has a more versatile Zoom.. Lamp cost and life is roughly the same.

Mate, I have the Espon one and it is really great. I did buy the wireless version but I ended up wiring it. My reason for getting the wireless version was just in case I wanted to take it out to the alfressco if I was hosting the boys for a game and I didnt have a long enough wire. However, if you do not have a use for the wireless version, save yourself the extra $$. Have you sourced prices yet for the Epson? Just keen to know what is going price at the moment.

I cannot comment on the Benq as I havent used it but I am extremely happy with the Epson and have no complaints what so ever. Having said, I do have a dedicated cinema room which is light controlled which helps to project a good image.

Good luck with your decision :)

  • Thanks for the replies scubacoles & Realsteel, I really appreciate it. I think i'll go with what I originally decided on…which was the Epson :-)
Realsteel, what's your thoughts on the 3D quality of the Epson? Are you pretty happy with it?
    Cheers

    • I haven't tried the 3D content myself as I am not a huge fan of it. The only reason I got 3D was to "future proof" the purchase incase we have kids who might watch it or kids of family coming around so some entertainment for them. While researching, I found good reviews about it. I did attempt to play 3D content but my bluray (6 years old) did not support 3D content and for some reason the PS3 console refused to play it either.

How much are you purchasing the unit for if you don't mind me asking? PM me if easier. Thanks

      • for some reason the PS3 console refused to play it either.

Low Grade or slightly damaged HDMI cable perhaps?
