Kogan sent mobile with broken security seal of box (open box)

I recently bought Samsung Galaxy S5. It came up with unsealed box and saw finger print on its screen plastic cover. Also When I switched on first time, I found Chinese Language set on the phone and software was upgraded just 3 days prior to dispatch date. While looking at phone inside & outside, I didn't see any mark or scratch or any trace of previous usage on hardware but I am little worry.

Did anyone have the same experience?

There is no good excuse for them to open the seal…

I read from somewhere before(either here or Whirlpool) that Kogan sometimes turn on certain models of mobile phones to unlock them, or make sure they are unlocked. Maybe someone can chime in?

    • From memory, to curb the grey market, Samsung requires a SIM card from the country of origin to be inserted. I'm assuming because the S5's are from Hong Kong, some HK guy must've fiddled with it.

yeah i read that too. they open box to make sure all working, unlock phone and change language to english.

  • They are "quality tested" by Kogan. I believe they do it so there's less DOA products.

"Quality test" smudging the screen; return it and chargeback your credit card. Rub Russlan Kogan's face in it.

  • Yep my note 2 that i bought off Kogan was via a French telco but hasn't missed a beat- have flashed with different Roms etc… i was a bit concerned when i got mine for the same reason(seal broken)

Mind you i saved heaps maybe couple of hundred (when the Dollar was stronger)
don't think i would bother now unless the deal was insane .

(was a deal someone posted on OZB too)

  • is it worth complaining to Kogan/paypal? Has anyone done it before and got any positive outcome?

  • There has been a thread about this before. It appears to be normal practice to open the phone box.
