How to save on domestic flights!

Just booked some flights from Melbourne to Sydney with JETSTAR and got massive discount.

JETSTAR flight was costing me $190 for the return flight, plus $17 for credit card fee.

While TIGER AIRWAYS flight was costing me $110 for the return flight, plus $17 credit card fee.

So I called JETSTAR and requested price beat guarantee option.

JETSTAR gave me 10% discount on the price TIGER AIRWAYS was charging me for flight plus did not charge me any credit card fee.

All in all paid only $99 for a return trip and saved $108 in 20 minutes.

Congrats, but this is pretty stock standard.
I'm pretty sure 99% of ozbargainers already know this but hopefully that 1% can save!

    • Thanks for your comments MPAF :)

      Agree, pretty standard ozbargain tactics.
The only annoying thing about it is the 1 hour time window. Often the flight will be out by like 5-10 mins.

      • 1 hr either side of the competitors departure - ie 2hr window.

        • yeah, sorry, that's what I meant

Having a long distance relationship means I'm pretty much Jetstar's No.1 price matching customer! But how did you manage to do it over the phone? I haven't been able to ring and book flights over the phone for months! I have been booking flights via their chat service

    • I called them after 8:00PM. I have done the same many times. Once I called them and ask them to give me promotional price from Melbourne to Bangkok as there website was crashing and they did gave me the web price.

I am working on a deal with Flight Centre and if that works out members of my facebook community could get special discounts at all time.

      • Is this something you'd be willing to share and elaborate on? Or you'd rather just keep it between friends and family? I'd be interested if it's a good deal!

        • Melaco - once I get the deal with Flight Centre I will sharing it on my facebook page and also with Ozbargain members.

It is a long process - but in the mean while stay tune for a home loan re-finance deal I will have in next couple of days from Bank of Melbourne

Keep an eye on my facebook page www.facebook.com/your.money.management

          @saurab8:
I just liked the page, looking forward to seeing what you can find!
Does the re-finance only apply to new or old customers?

        • @melaco: Thanks so much.

Re-finance option will be if you switch your existing home loan to Bank Of Melbourne.

Full offer will not be available for loan refinances of existing Bank of Melbourne, BankSA, and St. George home loans.

You can read about me on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/155616 or on the ABOUT tab on my facebook page.

        • @melaco:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/156753 is the offer I just posted from Bank of Melbourne.

Jetstar is awesome if you have an infant. Tiger charges, jetstar doesn't. Plus jetstar allows you to take a pram, and a car seat for free.
In my experience, the internet price match is best fine at 8am…. No queues
