Gerry Norman to offer apology for OzBargain DDoS attack!

Sup,

As scotty mentioned in fb…Ozbargain had a DDos attack and it was believed that it was a revenge by Gerry…So decided to investigate and confirm this claim and here are my findings:

    I don't think I'll get an email from Harvey Norman regarding to today's incident, however do note that it's actually the 2nd time we got attacked with DDoS in 10 days — i.e. most likely nothing to do with HN. OzBargain was down last Tuesday (5 August) for an hour for the same reason. The attack stopped while our hosting provider was negotiating mitigation with upstream bandwidth providers.

    This time however they have to null-route OzBargain's IP address for half an hour to wait for the attack to die out. I still have no idea who might have done it.

      Someone posted a question on Facebook why OzBargain was down which I replied. As of DDoS, it is Distributed Denial of Service. Basically the attackers got virus-infected computers all around the world to send bogus packets to OzBargain's server, creating a congestion where legitimate users can no longer connect to the website. A bit like when OzBargainers swarmed an online store & killed it in a way where no one else can buy anything there — but on the TCP/IP packet level.

        Thanks, now I can understand more about this issue :) although still seems a bit complicated regarding the nature of the attack :x

    I feel like I have missed an earlier story. Why did Gerry Harvey attack us? And what leads you to believe that it was him?
