Intel NUC + Wifi 7260 adapter issues

Hi everyone,

I have tried Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 and seem to be having issues with the Intel 7260 wireless adapter. The drivers install but it doesnt seem to be able to locate any wireless networks.

So my question is has anyone had any luck getting their Intel NUC plus the 7260 wifi card working together, and if so which drivers did you use?

  • This might be of use.

WP indicates that v16.1.5.2 may be the most stable driver.

  • No luck. I tried using a TPlink and a Dlink USB wireless dongle and I get the exact same outcome, its as though the system is not responding to wireless as strange as it may sound.

    • Have you checked in device manager to see if the device is there/updated/enabled? I would probably then check in network and sharing centre in control panel, then click on adapter settings. If it still seems all good type cmd into run and then type ipconfig into the command prompt and see if it lists your wireless device.

If that's all working, I'd try just swap out a card from a laptop to check if it's your antennas. If that fails I'd say it's pretty safe to say your wifi card is dead. I've only ever seen one die, but it's happened.

  • Have you tried updating the bios? That solves the RAM incompatibility issue.

Do the usb ports work? Maybe the motherboard is fried in certain areas, i.e. pci slots and the usb.

  • Thanks for those who provided advice. After a bit of research it turns out the Intel NUC is not very compatible with 32-bit operating systems and their respective drivers. When I tried Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 both were 32-bit versions, it didn't occur to me that there could be driver related issues.

I guess my bit of advice for those who purchase an Intel NUC is to make sure you use a 64-bit operating system as the intel drivers seem to targeted towards the 64-bit operating systems.

    • I had a similar issue before but with Bluetooth, as it actually comes in separate driver. Installing the correct Intel software fixed my problem.

      NUC D34010WYKH (4th Gen)
      My current settings:
      * Driver: Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7260 (ver 17.0.0.34)
      * S/W: Intel PROset/wireless wifi (ver 17.0.0.0)

      2 choices of drivers:
      - "wireless_17.0.0_e32.exe" (with Intel S/W - 77.9 MB), or
      - "wireless_17.0.0_de32.exe" (without Intel S/W - 12.4 MB)

Disregard "Win8" requirement, this driver is also works in Win 7-32bit, SP1 is required though.

      Hope this help.

      • I have the exact same unit as you.

However, I found stability issues with using ver 17.* drivers, specifically, random drop outs. After a bit of research I found the 16.* to be more reliable, I have been using it since and its been pretty good.

I guess these Intel NUC's are a bit random and take a bit of playing around with to get the best out of it.
