Playstation Plus

Hi all,

As many of you may have been taking the advantage of DSE 20% deal and snatched a PS4 for yourself (including me), the next step is buying PSN Plus. I have been with XBOX for the last 3 years and have no idea where the the best place to buy PSN Plus and it seems to have region locked as well (unlike the XBOX Live. Darn it!),US AUS UK JPN.

Any advice about which PSN Plus to get or deals is appreciated

Go for a US account for the best deals. A year of plus works out about $55. You'll need to set up a US PayPal account to top up via PSN but that's pretty straight forward. Loads of information available about how to do it online.

Is there any deals for an AU account (cbf USA, really lazy)

US account is definitely the cheapest way to go. I just buy the vouchers from amazon with my US account. They sometimes have the sales on for a 1 year subscription for $30 too

  • How do you set up a USA PayPal account?

    • You'll just need to use a US address. Anything in 90210 seems to be the address of choice. Then just send funds from your AUS PayPal to the US one.

  • OK, that easy? I thought that the Paypal AUS did not work with an US PSN account.

    • It doesn't. You need to send money from your AUS PayPal to the US PayPal. Then you can use the US PayPal to top-up your PSN wallet. Well worth the extra step/hassle as the prices are so much better in the US. Sale prices are cheaper too.

      • Can you set up a USA Paypal account without a USA bank or credit card account?

Sure can. Just follow the sign up process.

        • @Got Fever:

I did that but does the account needs to be verified before doing the transfers in between the accounts? Isn't easier way to create one USA PSN account and buy prepaid credits from Amazon and like?

        • @here2rock:
You may have to be verified to send the money to your US account, but once the money is in your US account, you can use it any way you like, i think

There does seem to be a limit of $500 before you have to be verified, has any one spent over $500 in ther US account

  • I have a couple of questions
Do you miss out on anything by setting it up with a USA account, can you still download Australian apps
Do you have to have a USA account to download apps like Hulu Plus
Some where i read that you should say that the place you are in is Alaska because it doesn't get a specific tax( I can't remember which), is that right?

I have read of people getting banned for too often swapping between regional account on the psvita so i wanted to get it right

PS4 you just have 2 accounts, a US and AUS account, no matter which you purchase a game on all accounts can play it. The vita is different because you can only have 1 account on it.

And yes certain places don't get charged tax just have to google which ones they are

    • I'd be very surprised if you got banned for switching accounts. When I moved out here from the UK, I called support to see if I could transfer any of my game licences to a new AUS account. They said the only way I could access my 'UK' games on the vita was to switch accounts so it's encouraged by support staff.

That's one of the reasons I gave up on my old account & moved to a US one.

  • I am on the last page of setting up a US paypal account and it asking for my social security number

PayPal Credit is subject to credit approval. For verification, please provide your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your SSN. (social security number)

I see that there is a 'not now' link, that let me finish making the account
