Help : need new mobile phone plan

I am currently on an old live connected plan for $12 a month and they are offering me something like $500 worth of credit and 1.5gb of data.

I dont use anywhere near that much though. LC is now raising the price of old plans by a TON…by almost $10! That makes my plan completley unaffordable.

Can anyone suggest a decent and cheap basic plan? Closest i could find was Vaya, but their lowest plan is still more expensive than my current plan. I would prefer not to have to pay for a new SIM (why cant we use the same SIM anyway?).

  • how much would you use?

  • Hmm well so far ive used up $165 this month…and 10 mb of data.

    • If this is all you use, go Telechoice Rebel $12.50. Get $200 call and 200mb.

Its only halfway through the month….

        • EDIT:Scratch that..

        • Sorry didn't realise it was such a difficult question…

          Huh?

Don't think there are any equivalent plans anymore all wholesale costs went up
Equivalent phone value is vaya, if you want less data i think the are some plans that are slightly less

    • This..
The $12 (and lower) Live Connected plans are from another time, where Vodafone and Optus were battling it out for market share and as a result access prices dropped to ridiculously low levels, then Vodafail happened and Vodafone started pulling out of the price war and reducing the number of MVNO's)
As per plmko, the Telechoice plans are some of the cheapest around, they use Tesltra's Wholesale 3G Network (meaning an incomplete version of Telstra's 3G network with coverage similar to Optus/Vodafone Networks). To connect, your handset will need to be compatible with 850MHz 3G (note that many Optus handsets are incompatible)

      • Uh, how would i know if i am compatible with their network?

        • Google your phone specifications and look to see if it has 850MHz 3G (note that 850MHz 2G or GSM is not the same as 850MHz 3G or WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA)

  • wow $12, lucky

Can you guys head over to my thread to help me out too? I posted this way before this guy and I haven't gotten any replies! I am just new to OzBargain!

    • You're STILL yet to tell us your usage…

Uh i have, see above. I gave you my halfway monthly usage, so all you ahve to do is take that and x2…

        • That's not usage…
That's how much you've "spent" in Mobile Phone company "imaginary dollars".
Each companies rates are different, flagfall, rate per minute (type of charging increment), does that $165 factor in any free calls (ie LC to LC)?

Anyway, if that half month is indicative of a normal month you'll be looking in the vicinity of $20/month to get $400 on calls.

Vaya $18 is still your best bet.
but others have similar plans.. LC $23, Telechoice $20, Virgin BYO, Spintel.
As you can see, the new Plan Freeze LC price is around about the same as everyone else is offering.

        • @scubacoles:

Oh well i guess i will switch to Vaya then, thanks. Im not sure how to check the total minutes as LC is only displaying minutes per call. No, it does not factor in any free calls.

Is there a way to switch to Vaya from LC and still use the same sim, to avoid paying the new sim fee?

        • @Question:

The itemised usage tells you everything about every call, text, data you have made/used.

avoid paying the new sim fee?

          No
