Event Cinemas vs Hoyts rewards program

Does anyone know which rewards program has the best deals for students? I'm hesitant to get a Hoyts membership as there is an annual joining fee and I don't know if they have student deals like Event cinemas has.
I know the Optus movie rewards gives you $10 Hoyts tickets but the redemption sounds difficult at best.
Any and all input will be appreciated!

Cheers!

The hoyts fee is $10 and comes with a free ticket, so the cost is evened out straight away.
The hoyts rewards program isn't that good, you only get points for one adult ticket per transaction, so unless you want to go to the trouble of putting every ticket through individually it takes a long time to get enough points for a free ticket.

No event cinemas in melb so no idea what their rewards system is like.

My current choice is hoyts tickets from the racv for $10.25 each, student tickets are probably less.

    • Thanks! It's $12.50 for the membership fee in Sydney so I'm already not too keen on purchasing it (even if it does come with a free ticket!), especially since the Optus tickets are $10 and I'm getting $11 Telstra tickets at Event cinemas at the moment.

  • The Optus program isn't hard to redeem at all, though, if you are in a hurry, don't bother with them. Bad experience but that's a different story.

Just buy the $10 tickets from the Optus site, then redeem at the counter.

Disclaimer: I don't have an Optus account, my friend does and that's how we buy our hyots tickets all the time. I personally have and use the Telstra "thanks" program.

  • Eventcinema hands down

  • With Hoyts, there is no way to see how many points you have accumulated?
I don't think that you can use your points for movie redemption?
