  • Maybe actual details whould help. How much is a tailor made wool suit?

  • +2

Pure wool tailor made suits start at $999. Our entry level suits start at $599 (but this there's no free shirt on that range). Visit our pricing page for more information http://www.montagio.com.au/pricing,

All prices include one-on-one personal styling session, custom suit design, expert measurement, second in-store fitting, dry-cleaning and our perfect fit guarantee.

    • so confusing. So the "Essentials Wool" suit at $599 doesn't qualify, but the $999 does. you should put that in the deal. sneaky rep

    • Our entry level suits start at $599 (but this there's no free shirt on that range).

might fly to vietnam, spend a few days and get a suit made (with a shirt) for this price

    • Yeah, I had a custom made 3pc one from a HK tailor who visits aust for fitting sessions, great quality fabric and fit for around $600. this is no deal.

If you want to risk buying from a fly-in tailor then go for it. If you believe their fabrics are actually what they tell you they are and don’t care about having the Australian Consumer Law protect you, then that's up to you. We've had 100's of customers visit us after their first experience with fly-in tailors was too good to be true.

I'm new to ozbargain - didn't mean to confuse, that's why I posted our pricing page. I've also updated the offer to mention the $999 price. Our existing customers welcome a free shirt. Thought that with the offer running out that others might also.

    Good luck though.

    • My experience was excellent. Just like suit stores, some are good, some are bad i guess. Service was great, suits taken in free of charge months later when I lost weight.

Fabrics i got to feel before before buying certainly matched the suits I recieved. Didn't even look at the labelling of the fabrics, just went with what I wanted, felt like good quality and has lasted.

I'm not saying your service is any better or worse, just took issue with the way it was advertised not showing the minimum cost.

But thanks for updating the offer to be clearer. Step in the right direction. I'll remove my neg, IMO still don't think this is a deal, but at least it's not missleading now.

    Pretty poor attitude rep.

Is rather but off the rack designer at that price - your into Paul smith territory at a grand.

I think you are being a little harsh.

1st response they gave was to clarify details
2nd response - pointing out why their prices were more.

(not that I would buy a suit from them - just think they haven't done that much wrong re responses/attitude).

  • Rep, are you saying all fly in tailors aren't reputable and lie about their fabrics. Pretty broad generalisation.

  • +2

FYI Their suits aren't made in Australia. They just measure you in Sydney and then send your details to Thailand for your suit to be made.

Hi Freek, of course not. Some fly-ins are better than others. But it's a bit of a lucky dip. I'm just pointing out one of the reasons people buy taior made suits form local stores - peace of mind, plus local stores contribute to Australia by hiring local staff and paying local taxes.

Pretty much all suits are tailored in Thailand or China these days. Most people simply can't afford the price tag of locally produced suits. Even top designers labels charging $2500+ use offshore skills. We've always been open about where we get our suits made.

If you like our offer, great. If it's not for you then that's fine too.

    • So, where are your suits made and manufactured?

      • Our suits are tailored in Thailand, in our own production facility we manage ourselves. We control the end-to-end manufacture of all of our mens suits. I do not believe any other suit shop in Sydney does this.

I've had a suit from montagio, which I was quite happy with in terms of size and material.

However, I did not like the fact that every addition such as *hand stitched etching along the lapel (i think i paid $59), were so expensive.

So what ever the starting price is add a few hundred more for extras….

  • If you're in Syd, check these guys out. http://www.suitshop.com.au/ same deal, but starting at $750. I believe they're tailore in Aus as well…. but don't quote me.

    • I spoke to The Suit Shop a few weeks ago, but didn't end up buying a suit there. For what it's worth, their suits are made overseas as well (think it was China from memory).

All of the affordable made-to-measure suit places seem to have their tailors make up the suit overseas. If it's a grand or under, you can bet that it's made somewhere in Asia.

Personally I find it really hard to distinguish one place from another. How do you make an informed judgment on which one is better? Perhaps the Montagio rep can educate us here.

Also, credit to the rep for actually taking the time to answer people's queries here, I do think some have been harsh on him/here. I don't think they're trying to hide anything.

  • Hi Thanq, thanks for your post. Glad that you were happy with your suit in terms of size and material. Yes, we charge for some optional extras on our mens suits for things that take our tailors significantly longer or for suit linings that have a higher cost price. Some people choose them, some don't. It's up to the individual. The deal does mention that "pure wool tailor made suits start at $999" - and for that price you can get a fully tailored suit which (as mentioned) includes one-on-one personal styling session, custom suit design, expert measurement, second in-store fitting, dry-cleaning and our perfect fit guarantee.

Also, I'm not sure where suitshop's garments are made, but at that price you should probably ask them.
