CBA to ING transfer, how long should it take?

Hey!

Transferred money from my CBA to ING this morning and I received the processing confirmed and completed from CBA (email) yet ING still doesn't show any money.

Usually, on my CBA it will show account balance and available funds yet on ING it only shows the balance… Which hasn't increased.

How long would a transfer usually take?

  • Usually overnight, but can take up to 3 working days depending on interbank agreements.

    • Thanks! Just feels weird not having a change in the balance.

  • 2nd tier banks and credit unions usually take till next (business) day.

  • the delay is most probably at the CBA end.

when I send money from ING to CBA the money goes out of ING straight away most probably sits in CBAs short term money market somewhere and arrives into my account 2 days later.

I daresay your money is sitting in that short term money market account right now.

  • if your ING account were not active(stale account), ING will not clear the fund although will show you the balance. you might need to contact the ING support team to activate the account again.

  • I did the same. Took 12hours

It should take about 5 seconds, but banks have us stitched up with an interchange excuse than is a relic from 50 years ago….
Buy fuel now and within seconds your account is debited. This proves the point. A credit or credit transfer should be processed just as quickly as a debit or a purchase. The technology is all in place but it doesn't suit the big greedy banking cartel…..

    • Can't wait for it to end…hopeful that it will.

P.S. Just realised OP has user ID 'Ban Slavery' LOL, rather telling. Banks need to get with the times and stop ripping us off. I guess we let them.

They'll probably use the excuse of 'transnational crime and money laundering' laws now. But that's a lie too. Might delay it by a microsecond but that's it. All electronic now.

  • Got it!! Cheers everyone!

The only instant transfers are within the same bank / institution.

If you are depositing money into a high interest account eg Savings Maximiser then I'd suggest doing it the other way around. Transfer the money from CBA into ING from either the ING website or ING app, that way ING knows about it straight away and you start earning interest. Been doing it this way for years. This way you will see the balance change at ING first and CBA later.

The actual funds still take the same amount of time to transfer but you will see this reflected in the 2 different balances in ING. Eg. Current Balance and Available Balance will be different until the transfer fully completes.

  • CBA is absolutely the worst! It always debits the money immediately from your account but takes eons to credit. I find ING to always be efficient & other banks reasonable. Credits to CBA credit cards can take 5 days. Grrrr…..

  • I have no idea what you are on about. I'm with CBA for my general banking and have an ING everyday and savings maximiser. Transfer from CBA to ING or ING to CBA in the morning and it's there in the afternoon, on weekdays. Never missed a beat, sometimes its there by midday.

    • I ended up getting it in the late afternoon.

I was simply asking the turnover time expected because I'm a new ING user.

      • sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. was just trying to let people know that it doesn't take more than one business day. It's something I do regularly, to maximise interest and take advantage of 2% rebate. just remember to transfer first thing in the morning and it should be there in the afternoon, never failed me once.

  • Why 2 everyday banks? Pain in the ass. Use Citibank for no forex fees buying stuff online and is separate for security reasons and then stick with one of the Big 4 for convenience.

  • Hi could anyone help me out I'm new to ing banking. I transferred money from my nab internet banking this Monday Saturday 3am to my ing bank account it still hasn't gone in when would I roughly get it?
