How many people in your home, OP?

we are a family of 4

Mine tend to come on A4 sheets of paper, with a two tone colour and black type. They have a logo on the top left corner, along with company contact details.

I have my personal details and account details, along with how much money I owe them, and a date I have to pay by.

At the bottom is information on how to pay.

    :-)

About 12000 MJ for me these last 2 months. 1 person, gas heating, water and stove-top. A bit shocked too :)

No more winter nude-living for me…

Average 12-15 MJ per day. 1 person with hot water only. My supply charge is about twice as much as the usage charge.

No gas bill. We have natural gas plumbed in but only for a single heater. Ripped it out as soon as we moved in and went to reverse cycle air con instead. Now we just pay out the ass for electricity :(

  • Two working people, Hot Water and Gas Stove and we average about 30MJ/day in winter but drops to about half that amount in summer (don't really know why… less hot howers perhaps)
I'm with RED energy and get charged $0.525/day connection fee which is about the same amount charged as the gas we actually use ($0.66/day)

  • Looks like too many digits on the payment due date

  • Our latest one is from mid February - mid May (91 days).

2 people in the house. Hot water, gas stove only.

2962MJ used in that three month period. Average 32MJ/day.

The next bill probably won't be much different. House heating is electric (split system)… so that bill will be uglier over winter. Eep.

  • I bet they are guesstimating, They are supposed to come out atleast once a year but we haven't seen them in 2 years

  • 10,283MJ over two months (in coolish Melbourne) with unzoneable overhead whole of house heating used moderately at 18 degrees thermostat, plus hotwater and cooktop.
I could easily see usage being douuble that in a household with less moderate control of heating.
With projected doubling of gas prices following connection of national grid and move to parity pricing, there will be quite an incentive to partition off part of the house and installation of a local heater for that area.

  • Some years ago I moved into a rental unit, and made a note of the gas meter reading on the day I moved in. A few months later I provided the gas company with the current meter reading as requested and got a bill that was incredibly high for that short a period.

It turns out that the previous tenant (the landlord) hadn't provided them with readings each quarter and hence they had been (under)estimating his usage and (under)charging him accordingly.

Fortunately they took my word for it, adjusted the meter readings for the period to the actual values, and the bill was adjusted way down. So check with the gas company to see whether start or end meter readings were estimates.

  • 23000MJ two months. Mother and infant at home. Gas hot water booster with solar, gas central heating, gas cooking. Heating is on 15 hours a day set to 19c. For unknown reason, usage was higher when both of us were working full time last year, with the heating off when no one is around. ???!?!

  • 1,453.22MJ usage for 3 months, 2 adults.

  • 12000MJ a month. Middle of winter in Ballarat. Large four bedroom home with a 20 year old ducted heater which is very inefficient. We bought the house a few months ago and it is the first thing we will replace. Temp kept around 16 - 20 throughout the day. Hot water/cooking/gas log fire in lounge all on gas as well.
