Well the price looks great, but in many cases this camera won't help you.

Description says "this car video recorder will record and display everything you need."

This I can tell you is wrong.

The resolution of this unit is too low. Even a camera with 1920x1080 isn't really a high enough resolution to read number plates in many cases, particularly any not near the very centre of view. Indeed the limitation of dash cameras can be the frame rate, not just the resolution. Remember the number plate is moving relative to the camera and frequently the number plate will blur making it unreadable at relatively slow speeds, so 60fps is needed. Even better cameras don't record number plates at night because of the glare and nature of the light reflected from the number plates.

That is true that it won't capture many of the number plates.
However it will capture what really happened, e.g. making it easier to work out who was right or wrong.

I wouldn't buy this one, as it will be so blurry that it will be pretty much useless.

Just imagine trying to argue with somebody who did the dodgy (insurance fraud) and deliberatly reversed into you, then saying you rear ended them at the lights…

Without footage or a few eye witnesses, you are pretty much guarenteed to lose and will have to pay the excess.

I have had a friend who had this happen to them it was also pretty late at night so nobody was around to witness. Basically its he said she said, but since in Australia the rule is "Who ever hits the back = automatically at fault" so you lose.

      • You do realise if you are not at fault and you can't identify the driver or other vehicle involved in an accident, that is the do a runner, then your insurance company will still deem you to be at fault.

You do realise this has only 120 degree field of vision, so about the only thing it is going capture is something right in front of the car.

Having used a much camera than this for several months now, you realise the limitations of car cameras in general. The one I have is much better than this one and I am amazed about how much is not recorded well or not at all.

    • You do not have to capture number plates.
All you need is to record the incident.
It is dirt cheap and pic quality would not be something to brag about but better than nothing.
Spend more if you want quality.
BTW.. led lights on these things do nothing.

      • Not sure if the camera have IR Cut capabilities hence the LED lights.
However IR Cut capabilities are only really useful if you were to take video of inside the car due to the windscreen blocking IR light.

Applications for this would be for example a Taxi.

  • How is the video quality? I am guessing it's a case of you get what you pay for.

  • Rep, you'd sell more if you posted a link to some sample video.

I'd be surprised if anyone bought this camera after looking at a sample footage.

  • Claims to be $79 RRP…

  • pretty good deal for local product, and perfect for dads everywhere, i know my dad becomes an accident magnet everytime he gets behind the wheel!

  • $25 at msy partlist webcamplcc01

Grab this dash cam only if you DON'T LOVE YOUR DAD

  • This thing is only good for something stationary, within 2 meters, and in day time.

  • its pretty simple if it does not have a HDMI out , its not worth a pinch of sh*t
