Desperately need a new smart phone

Hey guys,

i have been waiting for note 4 to be released to the market, now that iPhone 6 is getting released on sept 9th ( hopefully ) and if iPhone 5s prices come down drastically i would rather buy that.
But still note 4 seems to be having 4 gb ram and much bigger screen than iPhone and better processor speed. Price doenst matter, as i would be buying from kogan and they have 12 months EMI above 500 dollars interest free..

Can anyone suggest me that should i wait for note 4 to come out, settle with note 3? or get the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 5s when prices come down drastically.

Any good suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

LG G3 or LG G2. Best phone ever.

    • I am looking for a bigger screen and Lg i don't know somehow don't like it ..Thanks for ur post

      • if you're looking for a bigger screen than a G2/G3 why is iPhone 5s on your list?

        • yes primarily looking for bigger screen but wouldn't mind iPhone, if note 4 is quite costly when it releases on 3rd. Yes i should have been more clear on that part.

      • LG have mad some crap products in the past - especially TVs. But thats changed - the G2 and G3 are amazing devices. Priced very well too.

        • I really like the g2. While I hate phones that lack a removable storage option or swappable batteries the G2 is well designed, the battery has a generous capacity and the price is also fairly reasonable. CPU speed also trumps the Galaxy s4

I got mine from Kogan @ $328 from the Big Sunday eBay promo. Absolutely no complaints at this price.

When do iphones ever drastically drop in price? I'd get the Note 3.

    • haha :) true

The most likely scenario with apple is the 5c (yes c) replaces the 4s at $529 for 8GB. The 6 then slots into the 5s spot (possibly with an even higher price) and the larger 6 doesn't appear till the new year (with the watch) at a sillier price still.

Assuming the apple semi-phablet doesn't appear till then, I'd suggest the Note 4 will pop up at latest not long after the apple announcement (rumour says its going to be in advance, on the 3rd) - and if you are looking for a phablet then its going to be your best choice. Only reason to go Note 3 is if you can get it at a large slice off the price, after the 3rd.

    Not long to wait, anyway.

Only issue might potentially be the Nexus 6/x/Shamu at 5.5 inches and 64bit in Oct/Nov. If at a good price that could make a mess of the Samsung offering by having better OS support a a keen price level.

    Get the new iPhone 6.

The fact that a Note 3 has more Ram doesn't matter, it's not like an iPhone runs out of ram, iOS is not ram hungry. A Ferrari only has a 4.5 litre V8, and a Mack truck has a 16litre engine, does that mean the Mack truck is faster?

The 5S processor might have a slower clock speed and less cores, but it has more advanced architecture and tops most of or is near the top off all phone processor bench marks. I doubt anyone with a 5S has wished their phone processor is faster.

iPhones are engineered to a higher standard, with better tactility and much higher quality materials. They are also much more expensive. Personally, because I use my phone all day, every day, I chose to spend that extra money on an iPhone. I don't use my tablet all the time, and I needed USB OTG capabilities, so I bought a Nexus 7 tablet. Its not as good all around as an iPad, but for my needs it is good.

Yeah people seem to be fooled by the spec sheet on phones these days. Because of the close integration between hardware and software, Apple is able to make a very efficient and fast phone. It really depends on which operating system you prefer too. I recommend trying the phones out in store as well and get a feel for them. I'm leaning towards the iphone 6 though only because I highly value portability with regards to mobile phones.

      • yes i like apple - i have a MAC and an iPad and had an iPhone before nokia 1100, but want to try something diff. Thanks

    • The fact that a Note 3 has more Ram doesn't matter

Disagree. I hear from people all the time that their Safari tabs constantly reload because the devices don't have enough memory to hold them. And more RAM will be all the more important with more graphically intensive games coming out. No, it doesn't have to be a spec-for-spec comparison, and it is quite difficult to compare between OS's (especially with all of Samsung's bloatware in the way) but saying that RAM doesn't matter isn't correct either. Trust me, the iPhone 6 will have more RAM, because there is a need for it.

Your paragraph on the SoC is correct - Apple is using ARMv8 based architecture whereas Qualcomm, Samsung and Nvidia aren't yet (they seem to be trying to maximise efficiency of ARMv7 as a stopgap while they work on their own ARMv8 based designs). The CPU is up there a lot of the time, especially with web benchmarks. The GPU trades blows with the Snapdragon 801 w/ 330, but doesn't compare quite as well to the 805 w/ Adreno 420.

As for materials… eh. It's subjective. The build quality is there, but I don't think aluminium automatically makes a better phone.

  • oneplus one

  • question is how much is the note 4 going to be,

The Samsung Galaxy 5 is virtually the same as the note 2 and 3

Note 4 i hope its not that costly, i think they are coming out in 2 variations - 1 less price and 2 elite price so. it seems its curved one as well, i need a phone with a stylus and bigger screen and have never used android ever, my previous phone was an iPhone 4s ( screen broke because it fell down, had heat up issues and volume up ringer didn't work at all ) exchanged it for $250 at apple store in perth city got a refurbished phone and gave it to one of my relative. The phone i m using is a nokia1100 ( bought from a recent deal ) - the num pad is totally erased/ the back panel broke after the phone vibrated and fell down from the table and the charger doesn't work unless i plug it and hold it for a good 10 mins.. !! :)

i am jus waiting for note 4 or maybe will settle with note 3( hopefully price reduces after the 4 release)

I'm guessing it would be simliar to the Note 3 pricing which was around $880 locally on release day. By 2 variations it's most likely a Qualcomm version and a Snapdragon one. They could do what they did with the Note 3 and have cheaper version(called Neo) but that was after the normal versions were out for some time.

        • Yes u r right the snapdragon and octo processor.. but lets see if note 3 prices go down and might as well buy note 3 if more or less features are similar to note 4..fingers crossed i get a good deal.. either note 4 or note 3 i am open to anything

I just noticed that you are going to finance your phone if it is over $500. I think that if you can't afford to buy a phone outright, you should be looking at a cheaper phone like a Nexus 5.

Also, you really don't want a stylus with your phone, it seems like a good idea in theory, but it is just something to lose. The real skill is engineering a phone or a tablet that doesn't require a styles, rather than one that does.

    • nexus 5 one of my colleague has it @ work and he is not really happy with it. My sister has a note 3 and its awesome .. But i jus read it on tech radar that note 4 is releasing on 4th sept.. i will wait for 2- 3 weeks if i have waited for 2-3 months and see whats the offer. .But yes i agree with u with the stylus part.. but i have never had a phone with a stylus ever and me thinks it will look cool ;) Thanks

      • Just to let you know, there is a t in just.

        • haha thanks for pointing that out :)

  • For my money - The new Shield.
This tablet has just been released in a 4G format, (with a list price of US$299 for the Wi-Fi - that can be had on Amazon for ~ US$330 :-/) and the LTE version for US$399. It seems quite popular - I drool when I think of it. The drawback is that the LTE bands may not match ours on the voice model …
    [North America:
    LTE: Bands 2,4,5,7,17 (1900, 1700, 850, 2600, 700)
    HSPA+: Bands 1,2,4,5 (2100, 1900, 1700, 850)

    Outside-North America:
    LTE: Bands 1*,3,7,20 (2100/1800/2600/800)
    HSPA+: Bands 1,2,5,8 (2100/1900/850/900)
    * In certain regions band 1 and voice support is enabled]

    FROM: http://shield.nvidia.com/gaming-tablet/

"There is a second International version that works on popular European and Asian networks. It supports LTE bands 3, 7, 20 and HSPA+ bands 1, 2, 5, 8.

The third version also works on popular International carriers, in addition to including voice support on compatible networks. It supports LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 20 and HSPA+ bands 1, 2, 5, 8.

Check with your favorite carrier to verify coverage in your area.

DOES THE SHIELD TABLET LTE SUPPORT VOICE?
There is a version of the international SKU that supports voice on compatible networks, available for purchase in select regions."
