Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire - Steelbook or not?

So these are the facts so far:
1) Australia/NZ is not getting a local variant of the Steelbooks.
2) The Steelbooks cost £39.99 (approx $70 AUD) from the Nintendo UK store/GAME UK (not including forward shipping) or EUR 43,99 (approx $60+ AUD) from Amazon France (not including local & forward shipping). Ozgameshop is looking at acquiring these, and I'd assume the price would be in a quite similar range to these ones.
3) Europe's release date for the games are November 28, while Australia gets it on November 21.
4) There's likely to be some release date discounts…from Big W under $50 AUD for the standard edition. EB meanwhile has the preorder bonuses at $60 AUD.

Given all this…I'm just thinking, is it worth bothering with all the cumbersome stuff to get these? Even if Ozgameshop got their hands on the Steelbooks (so I don't have to worry about forward shipping), I'm still not sure as I'm likely to be going away in December, so I'm worried about the delivery time (to people who have used Ozgameshop before, how long did it take?). Not to mention that besides all this, I have to wait a week+ to even play the game.

Btw, I'm getting both of the games.

Oh and btw, for those that don't know what the Steelbooks look like, here they are. They also come with the Legendary Figurine pre-order bonuses if you buy from the Nintendo UK store/GAME UK (if Ozgameshop gets these, I'm not sure if they'll have these pre-order bonuses).

  • I dont like steelbooks, cos they look so different from the rest of the games. Would probably sit in a pile under my bed like all the other ones while I use the normal case.

EB will still usually give you the bonus if you price match when it comes out.

    • Does vary store to store. I know some do and others don't, a mate from high is the manager of one, good one but follows the rules (as he should, no beefs about that!) and he did point out that, price matching does some times void any bonuses that come as an eb exclusive.

Though I doubt you would have trouble at all given that you pre-ordered from them which is the only condition.

It should be around $48 from Big W at launch so I wouldn't stress about steelbook given the price difference. Disappointed to see Australia get shafted another collectors edition type option from Nintendo. Big N is pretty shitty in that department for Aus.

    • I think they judge it on an individual basis. For Pokemon X/Y for example, the store clerks initially refused saying you lose it if you try price match. Soon after it was clarified that they'd agree to give all pre-orders the bonus even after price matching (which is how I got my 2 PokeBalls). For the Link Between Worlds pre-order however, they didn't let you get it if you price matched (surprisingly, they gave some to Zelda 3DS XL purchasers when they weren't meant to get it at all).

      • I didn't get anything extra with my Zelda 3DS XL :(

Its hard to judge what ebgames will do.

  • Heads up: GAME ships to Australia for 5 pounds, however its still an extra $20 for a case (compared to EB) not factoring in a currency exchange surcharge.
