Do you up vote stuff you don't buy?

Do you up-vote stuff you don't actually buy?
Is there Ozbargain etiquette on this?

If something is a good "bargain" why not?

It's not about you buy you upvote. Its about good deal, upvote.

Yes. Always. It's rare that I actually buy anything that is posted around here lol. That doesn't stop me from upvoting the good deals, though.

The only deals I don't upvote are ones that involve products which I'm not familiar with (usually electronics, computer parts, phones, gadgets in general, some household products, baby stuff like nappies, wine or whisky deals as I don't drink those, etc etc) - the lack of personal familiarity with such products makes it hard for me to know how good the deals are, since I don't follow their pricing trends at all. If that makes sense. I feel bad about that because some of those deals are hugely popular, but I'd feel silly simply upvoting because everyone else is (though sometimes I do that anyway lol). I'd rather upvote based on my own insight and evaluation of the deal/bargain.

I also tend to click through to deal links out of curiosity too, without actually buying. Then I notice people commenting on deals saying that XYZ number of people have clicked on the deal according to the counter, yet only a portion of that number have +1'd the deal (or they assume a deal has sold out based on the number of clicks on the deal link) - again, I may click through on a deal but still be unable to +1 it as I don't know anything about the product's typical pricing… and I don't think peeps should assume that all those who click on the deal links have made use of the bargain (be it a sale or voucher up for grabs in limited numbers)…

Man. My posts are too long.

  • It has to be a good deal to be upvoted I reckon. I don't upvote deals within areas that I am against such as fast food and expensive impulse buy products. I only upload deals which will benefit the community in general and there really hasn't been many quality deals going around lately… Maybe I am not looking hard enough

  • generally I "upvote" deals if I myself benefit from them, or if I would want to encourage others to get them.
So I don't always buy the deals I vote for, but most of the time it's stuff I buy (or get for free).

But like others said, the idea is to pos vote deals that you consider bargains.
Most deals don't seem to get many votes compared to the thousands of page views, so it seems the etiquette is to be sparing with votes.

  • Upvote if I would buy if it I didn't have a few countering factors, like bulky item that I don't need now as I'm planning on moving soon etc.

Gets voted to help encourage posting too.

Or sometimes I might already have the item and it's a bargain, so help let others know about it by +ing.

Yes. I also sometimes will upvote purely for the fact that the deal is original and for a product or service. that I think we should see more deals for on ozbargain. "Oooo thats cool, +1" I may have no idea if its a good price or not.

For example, I am hugely biased to travel deals, and will click that + very quickly :D

I also will be very reluctant to upvote a deal if I feel the product is over represented. eg : SSD, Batteries, Flashlight etc , has to be damm good to get a +1 from me then.
