Want a projector for the warmer months! help me

hey everybody!
okay so I want a projector which I can use maybe outdoors also so I could have some friends over to watch a movie on the big screen
(doesn't have to be 3D, prefer not an eBay model)
can anybody help with what I should be looking into considerations when buying a projector
or would anyone kindly recommend me some projectors
budget: around the 300-500 mark the lesser the better ;)

what resolutions should i be looking at?

    $300? Forget it!
You might pick up a used XGA model for around that money. (which will be fine if that's the way you want to go)
Anything else in that price bracket I wouldn't even vaguely consider. (ie don't even contemplate getting one of the no-name brands)
There's some reasonable looking WXGA units in the $400-500 range, that's what I'd be looking to buy.

  • you won't get anything for under $300…nothing good. I think you can get a Brother one for around $800, which connects to your laptop or docks an iPad or iPhone…heard it pretty decent

  • You will probably want something fairly bright. Depending on throw distance. Most decent projectors are around the $800ish mark. The few around $300 will be low brightness and low resolution. ie SVGA 800x600. If you are sending this to a large wall or similar it will probably look shit.

How far from projector to screen? How much ambient light? How big a screen?

    • I have an XGA Epson which is fine, a mate has a really old SVGA Sharp which does the job, but is noticeably low quality.

I've taken mine on holiday, projected onto a galv shed on holiday once.. worked surprisingly well! Your brain just seems to edit out the ripples after a while.
