LG G2, OnePlus One or Other?

I'm looking to buy my first "high spec" android phone, my budget maxes out at about $400.

It came down to these two, I use my current phone mainly just for music, texting, youtube, facebook and some gaming. I do have 50gb of flac music on a sd card, but if i end up with a phone with no expandable storage i could just use my current Lumia 720 as a jukebox.

Anyways, I'm leaning towards the 1+1 mainly because of Cyanogen and 3gb Ram. And I know you can install Cyanogen and other custom roms by rooting and flashing but last time i tried that i ended up with a bricked phone, so i would rather buy one with it preinstalled and not void warranties and risk another $400 paperweight.

So which should I buy? Lg G2, 1+1, or can someone recommend me something else just as good?

Thanks in advance

  • IMO - OPO is the clear winner over G2… G2 is a great phone but I personally don't like the Optimus UI.

If you can - wait till Nexus 6 get released… the specs will be little bit better than OPO (specially the screen) however price will be little higher too.

  • You could try for a LG G Pro 2. It's basically a bigger LG G2 with a Micro SD card slot and a removable battery. I prefer to use my LG G Pro 2 as it has a nice screen for viewing Youtube or browsing the net. However, the G2's smaller screen assists it in lasting longer. I don't have a OPO so I can't say, but the specs seem great.
As for ram, the LG G Pro 2 has 3GB of RAM, but I don't notice any lag or issues using either phones.

    • How is the battery life of the pro 2? I want to buy it but found few review that the battery is not good (although it has a huge 3300mAh)

  • Can anyone suggest the best place to buy a 1+1 if I did go that way? Looking on ebay one store had the 64gb for $419

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OnePlus-One-4G-LTE-QUAD-CORE-3GB-…

No specifics on warranty, feedback looks dodgy too :/

    • Check previous threads in OZB
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/oneplus-one

I guess DWI would be safer if you don't have an invitation

btw - yes the ebay seller looks dodgy… At least his description is not right, as far as I know OPO 64gb only comes in black, but he is selling a white 64gb!?

  • 1+1 if you can get it.

Otherwise, the G2 is VERY good. Beats the battery life of the 1+1 to a pulp. However, its specs isn't the latest like the 1+1, and it is also smaller (but has a very large screen… so like you're holding a screen, not a phone).

  • +1

Got some OnePlus One invites (64GB). PM me if you want one, will have to redeem via a VPN and dropship from US or somewhere as won't deliver directly to Oz though.

    • Now all gone.
