Planning on buying a 2010 Hyundai i45 - A good buy considering it is discontunied in oz?

So I need a rather expert opinion on this one or anyone who drives this car and their experience. I am thinking of buying a 2010 hyundai i45 for 17k.

The car is immaculate. but there is one thing that is stopping me. that model is discontinued in Australia. Will that create a problem in future when i need a repair and the parts are hardly available?

I love that car. it ticks all boxes for me. but i'm reluctant to buy that car just because of this one issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Don,t buy it.. For 17k you can buy a lot better car,
    Honda Accord Euro etc

yes. but honda will cost a lot more in maintenance as compared to a hyundai.. I'm only saying this out of experience as my cuz owns a honda and I have 2 hyundais

  • buy it. for 17k it is a great deal. there are other i40 cars that use can parts so you should be right.

Does it come with a 1080p resolution ?

  • BTW.. It is the top most version (Premium). with moon roof and a lot more convenience with only 43k on the odo.

  • It is an average deal. I do not think the parts availability would be an issue

  • Price seems good for the car you say it is, though personally I think the cars ugly and have heard a number of bad things with regards to Hyundai's lack of long reliability.

    • Lack of long term reliability sounds like BS to me based on actual ownership of Hyundais by several family members.
Have you anything to support this story you tell?

      • As anecdotal as your evidence, having owned an ix35 and never again, after the poor quality plastic work began to warp after the first year and then told it was caused by wear and tear and thus not covered by warranty, then in its third year the engine began to simply stop whilst driving, initially thought to be a fuel pump issue, replaced, wasn't, then though to be a CPU issue, wasn't, finally sold it as having a car stop without warning on a freeway was dangerous.
Lots of recalls for Hyundai too..

Have two other friends who owned Hyundai's based on my initial recommendation, both have had similar but different issues with their Hyundai's (one also sold his, the second is trying to get Hyundai to admit his car is a lemon and replace it within the first year of ownership). So yeah they seem to have problems with long term longevity, they may initially look nice but their build is quite poor, imo.

        • mate. if you look other brands, all of them have as many recalls. Honda has even more.https://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/952862

          delete - couldnt be bothered

        • @accessdenied: exactly

        • my 2007 Tuscon was an awesome car - just went and went never an issue (except flat battery one morning in 2012 -original battery)

  • Seems like top dollar to me.

  • If you need expert opinion why not call Hyundai customer service and ask them about this?

In your shoes I wouldn't let an issue like this stop me if I loved the car. Cars get superseded all the time, doesn't mean they stop carrying parts for them. Heck I remember buying a door mould for my first car (a 15 year old Prelude) doing a DIY repair job and I bought it directly from Honda.

Like posters above I'd test drive an Accord Euro if you're looking at sedans, possibly also a Mazda 6 or a VW Jetta.

  • Hyundai i45 is a good car and has a 5 year warranty so should be good until next year. The 2010 model had some suspension issues( wasnt right for Australian roads) which were sorted out in the 2011 model. Although you would hardly notice. 17K is reasonable price for a 2010 i45 premium.
The level of equipment in these cars is way more than any Honda or Mazda car.
I did a lot of research on this car and Kia optima, they are essentially the same car with different looks. I ended up buying a Kia optima cos I think they look a lot better.

  • geez $17k will get you an FG series 2 falcon, even an early ecoboost model, which will be miles better than the i45.
