Credit card - no foreign transaction fee, rewards points?

Hi all

I am looking to pay off my wife's student debts from NZ and consolidate the whole lot on the home loan. That is all pretty simple and straight forward however…

Does anyone know of a credit card that will charge minimal for the foreign currency (i.e $0 or 0% foreign current conversion fee) but also gives rewards points? The debt is around $20k so it would be EXCELLENT to get some reward points, even at 0.5pt per dollar spent

Any thoughts?

I can obviously get something like a Bankwest Zero card or a Citibank Visa Debit or 28 Degrees Mastercard for the 1st part. I know i can use just about any other credit card, or even Qantas Cash for the 2nd part. But does any card (or some sneaky backhanded method) exist to do both?

Much appreciated

So, what's in it for the bank/card issuer in your proposal?

  • bankwest rewards platinum does it. $130 annual fee, but introductory offer of 28,000 more rewards points should just about offset this cost for the first year. 2 points per $1 spend.. 40,000 more rewards points should net you a $150 coles voucher for your trouble.

they also do a qantas rewards card, but $160 annual fee, 8,000 qantas points intro and 0.75 per $1. Not sure its worth it.

Key part is that you can pay the student debts with a credit card.
