Forester 2.5i L for $40K-good price or back out?

Hi, am in the market for a small SUV.Tossing up between tiguan and forester.

The final price after bargaining has come to $40K(forester 2.5i Luxury special edition with full car tint, cargo tray, rubber mats, Autogold virtuosity premium-basically includes paint protection, leather care for the life of the vehicle). Also has 5yr unlimited Km warranty.

Quoted initially for $41K plus with extras.

Good price or has anyone got it for less?

Thanks.

To be honest as soon as I saw you interested in the paint protection - it tells me you don't really know what you are doing when it comes to buying a car. Have you got a friend who is experienced to help you?

  • can't really comment on the car because I'm biased toward VW because I know how safe they are. Though 'paint protection' the new stuff, a coating of some nano-tech stuff on the paint that lasts a life time is certainly worth it in the long run. It's essentially a permanent wax. If you care about your car, paint protection means you don't have to wax it and makes it easier to keep clean.

    • I don't see how the VW would be any safer than the subaru, and from all the latest social media stuff it would appear that subaru are the hands down winner on reliability over VW too.

      • i never said that the subaru wasn't safe. I just have had experience in a VW where I was t boned by a large four wheel drive. it's trust in experience. also my VW has capped price servicing for 6 years, and I don't mind it possibly being a bit dearer if I know that I'm going to be safe.

  • That seems quite expensive.

  • Check servicing costs… some makers have fixed price servicing but their "fixed" price can be very expensive… like $500 for what is basically a very quick oil change!!
Paint protection is a rip off.
Read the conditions (fine print) about the leather care warranty… it will require you to do regular upkeep to it.

There are plenty of other options out there… make sure you check them out… don't let the salesman bs you into making a rushed decision.
