Mulitfunction Colour Printer

Hey guys,

I'm looking for either a laser or inkjet printer. I need it to be:

-wireless
-have affordable, reputable and generic toner/cartridges online via ebay etc
-double sided scanning is a plus, but not a deal breaker (depending on price)

My family doesn't do too much colour printing. I'd approximate it to be around 10 pages a week MAX. So im not too sure whether to go laser or ink … whichever is the best value.

Thank you all!

  • I'm also in the market for a printer so hopefully someone can offer both of us help.

    Looking for:
    -automatic double sided printing
    -cheap generic inks from eBay
    -multifunction
    -wireless

I'm a heavy user with printing for university lecture slides etc

  • HP officejet pro 8600 fits both your criteria.

  • wouldn't a $40 printer be better value?

I use a Brother Inkjet for University lecture notes. I print about 9 pages per day, double sided and colored. Brother ink does not have a chip, making it easier to use with generic inks. I am using mine with refillable cartridges, and they have required one top up within the past 2 years. A whole set of refillable cartridges was $20 from a computer swapmeet; it came with all 4 cartridges full of ink, and 4 bottles of 30ml of ink. The automatic duplex function works well and has never jammed. It is a multifunction, and also comes with wireless. I have used HP printers in the past and the ink kept on drying up. HP inks are chipped, and so are Canons, Epsons. HP sent me several replacements but they ended up drying up after a few days of not using it. I ended up on giving the HP away for free. On the other hand the Brother hasn't ever dried or clogged. I also have a color laser but due to running costs (a full set of toner costs more than $20), I only use it occasionally.

    • Wow thanks! That's looking pretty good for the price!

I've never used refillable cartridges before, are they easy to source?

      • Yes, and they are not messy to fill because they are intended to be refilled. I bought mine from the computer swapmeet at Box Hill town hall. See: http://www.technologymarkets.com.au/

Thanks for the tip TScott! Just picked one of these up today. Very impressed so far :)

    • if you never update the printer software for epson printers, they will never complain that the ink isnt compatible… i prefer epson cause the ink is only $2 per compatible cartridge and the black ink can print around 500 ish pages.
