Romantic Retreats near Sydney - Staying on 20th and 21st Dec 2014

Hi guys,

I have been a very silent user on this site; enjoying the new deals coming through and reading the posts and learning new things while doing so. Right now, I am hoping the community can help me with my first forum post.

My wife and I would be celebrating our wedding anniversary this Dec and we wanted to go out to some retreats that were located near Sydney as we are based there. I have tried looking around and frankly I am completely overwhelmed by the options and I don't know where to begin or what could be considered good. I thought Blue Mountains was reasonably close so I started checking that side however there were too many options and I wasn't sure which one is good. So I am asking the community here on their experiences and recommendations on a good tourist spot which would be fairly isolated as we would like to have some time alone and away from all the noise in Sydney. Few conditions are,

  1. We must be able to reach it by public transport (unfortunately we don't have a car so this is the next best option. Short taxi rides should be ok though if required). This is why I thought of Blue Mountains. Happy to consider other options too if available.
  2. Only two nights required i.e. 20th and 21st Dec (this is non-negotiable as our anniversary is on 22nd and I will take off on Monday but that would be the most I can get at that time as many others would apply for leave too). We should be able to return back on 22nd arvo.
  3. Preferably isolated yet within reasonable distance to shops, etc.
  4. Shouldn't cost more than $700-800 all up (public transport as well as bookings)

I was planning to visit Flight Centre next week but then remembered that there may be a lot of people here who may be able to help. Really appreciate any suggestions and feedback that you have regarding this. Thanks in advance.

PS. Sorry for the really long post.

TL;DR - Need a romantic retreat near Sydney for 2 nights (Dec 20th and 21st) for a couple. No sharing accommodation, etc

  • Last year, similar to your dates, me and the misses took the fairy from cronulla to bundeena, and stayed in a bnb. Beautiful quiet village, national park, beaches, galleries…..15 min from cronulla which is 25 min train from central. Highly recommended

    • Sorry - burst out laughing, with your spelling mistakes.

The mind started with all possibilities with misses and fairy

      Starting with

      Missus and fairies
      Misses and ferrys

      :)

BTW for the OP the Blue mountains should be nice at this time, a little cooler in summer, the beaches are probably crowded and getting accommodation late december will be hard, many beach side areas will be booked with weekly bookings for Christmas hols.

You might want to check the Jenolan Caves

      http://www.jenolancaves.org.au/accommodation/

But it does involve a longer travel time than places like Leura or Katoomba or Blackheath.

Living on the Central Coast I can vouch for the beach resorts being really crowded at this time of the year.

      • +1

well spotted. i thought i had those freudian slips under control. back to conselling….

      • Thanks for your response Rocky. I don't think I can manage till Central Coast. Will definitely look at the Jenolan Caves accommodation.

    • Thanks melgibson. I will have a look at this when I get home.

  • I have lived in Sydney for many years, but I still enjoy a weekend including a night's accommodation at Coogee Bay. So close, and yet I rarely go to the beaches, and so it feels like I could be thousands of miles away. Not expensive, and you have everything at your doorstep!

    • Thanks for your response peck.

I have stayed at Randwick before and I have been to Coogee; very noisy out there. Any particular accommodation that you found that was very quiet and serene?

      • Crowne Plaza is ok

        • Thanks. I will have a look.
