Victorian custom number plates (some help needed)

Hi guys, been here in Victoria for almost 3 months and it's time to get my NSW car switched over.

I need plates, and since it's going to cost me regardless I thought I'd try to get something of my choosing. Nothing too fancy, the typical ABC-123 format,is fine.

So the VPLATES Price List mentions the cheapest option is "POP" from $150.

Where the hell is POP when you go to design a plate? The closest option is 3X3 for $395+

I thought maybe POP is just for those who are happy to be given a random plate but I couldn't figure that out either.

I kinda have less than 2 weeks to get this all organised, so any help would be appreciated. The thing is I'm not planning to be in VIC for more than 1-2 years so I didn't really want to fork out top dollar for plates I'll have to surrender again anyway.

Failing all of the above, does VIC have the cheapo option like NSW & QLD to just get whatever was last hammered up? Last time I did that in QLD I think it cost $28… Seems things are pricey down here.

  • Not sure about your first question, but yes, Vicroads offers normal "next off the production line" plates for, off the top of my head, around $37, this doubles, I think, if you choose to go slimline instead, non standard coloured plates attract a further premium, as do of course, customised lettering

    • $37, that sounds fair. Thanks.

Slimline on the front would be nice, don't care about the back.

      EDIT: $34 it actually is.

  • I believe the POP plates are just different coloured plates, but with your existing rego number, no customs

    • Turns out you are right, see my comment below.

  • +1

just get a set of the slimline white on black "AAA-000" series plates, they are only like $150 and look really good (compare to the cheapest white on black slimline plates in SA which are $230 or something)
