Laptop screen brightness problem

Lately my HP laptops screen brightness has been going nuts. Changing from max bright, to dim, then max bright again every now and then without me touching/pressing any keys. Luckily this doesnt occur so frequent that it gives me a seizure, but enough to be very annoying (maybe every ~10mins). I noticed that doesnt happen when the charger is not plugged in.

Does anyone know a simple way to address this? Is this a primary symptom for something worse later on?

The warranty expired on 2014-04-20, but will this issue be covered by consumer guarantee?

Thanks

It's a setting called Vari-Bright inside the AMD Vision control center. It auto adjust brightness using an ambient light sensor.

    • Ive had a look in those settings, mine is the same screen, except it does not have the 'Enable Powerplay' and 'Enable Vari-Bright' checkboxes/option. Though it has the ability to select Max performance/powersaving ect in the drop down menu. This sudden change in brightness seems to only happen with the charger plugged in, nothing different when only running on battery. Ive re-installed the AMD Catalyst control centre from the original website, should be the latest compatible version. :(
