Sapphire Engagement Ring

Hi,

I'd like a sapphire engagement ring rather than the traditional diamond ring. Can you please provide advice which I'll pass on to the fiance on the best place to buy from, what to look out for, etc. Pictures would be a great help. We've only visited three jewelers, one in Westfield Pitt St Mall Sydney, and I'm not sure if this is where I'd get the best value for money, and two in the Dymocks building Sydney.

Apparently Europeans are more open minded to non-diamond rings compared to Aussies (I'm not sure if this was a sales pitch).

Thanks in advance for any advice, expertise and experience you can provide.

Honestly, if you can find the right stones, I don't see why you can't get it made instead from a shop. I'm not talking about from a cheapness perspective, but if you both get the input into the design, you can get something really nice. Retail for a ring is so marked up these days.

I might know some people, so shoot me off a PM and I'll share some contacts.

    • even jewellers can help source for the right stone (in my experience). So your input from basically start to finish.

  • don't have any advice
but a few more places to look at
QVB level 1-2 have a few more shops

also in the strand arcade (up stairs)

    try those places too!

  • I actually panned some sapphires (only small but a couple of nice ones), I am looking at designing my own ring and getting it made :)

  • Not sure if it's too late, but if you happen to go to Singapore, I know of a reputable shop that customs rings. PM me if you need the address.
