Free Game: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha @ moddb.com

Moved to Forum: Original Link

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha is a standalone mod for the 2003 hit game S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but doesn't require the base game to play. Lost Alpha restores all the content cut from first-person shooter survival game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and redesigns all these levels also adding new content to bring in a fully-fledged game.

It retraces the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games in a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. The game is a sandbox first person survival shooter with light RPG elements. The story takes place in "The Zone" which is like hell on earth where strange and deadly anomalies dot the land. The people who enter THE ZONE illegally are called S.T.A.L.K.E.R.S. (short for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, Robbers). There are many other factions within the game, like the Military, Bandits, Duty, Freedom, Mercenaries etc.

The effort put into making the game, attention to detail, the atmosphere, diverse game worlds, hidden secrets, creepy locations, amazing set-pieces, and high production values makes it a must-play game. If S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was great, Lost Alpha is amazing, especially considering that it's totally free.

  • Based on the description, this sounds like freeware which cannot be classified as a deal. Maybe I'm wrong?

    • Yes freeware.

Lost Alpha is a new episode of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series made by dezowave group for free!

Also make sure to install the latest 3rd patch before playing the game as it requires you to start a new game after installing.

    • So does anyone want to explain the downvotes? The rules state the following:

      NO Freeware or Free Websites.

I don't see how this deal is any different to posting one of the hundreds of thousands of free flash games you can find on the internet. If people started doing that, I wouldn't even bother coming here anymore.

      • I get what you are saying, but I think this is a bit different.

This game uses the I.P of a well known commercially-made series (and as per the OP it actually contains cut-content from the 'proper' games). So it's a bit different to some random free flash game.

So I guess technically you are right- it's sort of freeware. I think it's still a deal worth posting though.

Thank's for posting this OP. The S.T.A.L.K.E.R games are fantastic- a good fix of RPG and FPS elements and a really different feel/atmosphere to them than your typical Call of Duty style FPS.

Don't care if its free/be classed as a bargain…I wouldn't have ever known about it unless TA posted it.

Played all the Stalker games and they are brilliant so looking forward to playing this.

    • So going by this you'd be happy for people to spam OzBargain with all the free flash games people have created in the last decade or so? There is no difference between the two. You're just being biased.

      • I don't think this game fits in to the "flash" game freeware/shareware…the original game and sequels are not free so for a new add of the series on which is essentially a game in itself and does not require the original seems like a good deal to me.

Yes I probably am biased as I have played this game.

I think TA knows what he is doing by posting this, does that make the rules different for 1 user? hmmm maybe…but I dont care either way as long as the post is enjoyed by people

Don't they already do this by posting bargain after bargain from the same site or seller just because of a discount code.

  • The Tekken and Phoenix Wright freebies were moved to the forums because they've always been and always will be free. Little controversy there. How is this different? Because it's better or more popular?

Same deal with the Black Mesa mod 2 years ago. People wanted it to remain a deal because HL was "awesome" and people "wouldn't have known about it" otherwise. What if there's a big Phoenix Wright fan on OZB who's too busy to read gaming sites? Doesn't he deserve to know about the free iOS version too?

The line ought to be drawn at things that are always free. There are sites specifically made for sharing cool (non-purchasable) things you might not have known about.

I love STALKER. Thanks for bringing this game to my attention. D/Ling now :)
Update : I just discovered my PC doesn't meet the system requirements(they are quite steep, especially in the GPU department).
My old core2duo only has a 9500GT and this laptop that I occasionally game on only has a relatively older G210M(good for older 3D games but nothing recent)…Which is a shame because I am able to run(and have finished) the original STALKER trilogy on the aforementioned hardware specs above.

  • Looks like you need to be a member of ModDB in order to download? :(

The links work for me, but here's a faster alternative. Sure, it's nearly two years late, but this is Stalker! I could play this for many years.

      Lost Alpha complete

  • Holy stalker. Loved playing the series and all its bugs.

Looked at the steam sale a little while ago but i have all the games on disk and couldnt be bothered purchasing a digital copy.
Now i blundered because they dont run on my machine but this will be great to relive them shit scared moments when i first played it.
