looks like a very good deal! btw i've just written a brief guide to buying a netbook and optimising it - http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Netbook

Great price, nice bonus. Almost stopped by after work to have a look at one but instead I buried my head in my hands on reading this netbook is yet another with a glossy chassis and screen, which is a deal-breaker.

    • I will be so pleased when this inane fashion for glossy crap passes on.

Give me function over transient fashion any day.

    • +1

I agree. So over the glossy screens that seem mandatory these days.

      • is it really a fashion thing or is it a cost reduction? i dont know of anyone preferring a glossy screen. if its a cost thing, well….. might be a while waiting for it to pass

        • I don't think it's cost reduction.

I assume it's far more costly to produce and package a consistently defect & mark-free mirror finish than a matt or textured one. As Davo1111 asserts, "it attracts dust, scratches and finger prints", a bit like these idiotic black cars everyone kicks themselves after buying.

Also annoying when working on these things is the constant glare of one surface or the other, especially high gloss screens.

          • @Horizon: i always thought the matt screen was a coating especially applied to reduce glare and reflectivity. the macbook pro has a matt option that's actually more expensive than the glossy.

anyway more cost or less cost i'd take a matt screen anyday

  • whats wrong with glossy chassis and screen ?? easy to get dirty ?

    • +1

kinda like the ps3, it attracts dust, scratches and finger prints. Imo if it's in a stretchy case most of the time, you won't have any issues.

A lot of options in the netbook/CULV market. Eg: compare against 1005HA, 1101H, Acer 1410. The first two with global warranty, 63Whr batteries (9+hrs) and are delivered for < AU$600. Pricewatch wikis:
