Was looking for an action camera to mount to my motorcycle helmet, went to BigW expecting to pay $48 for one of their 3SIXTY 720p models, and was pleasantly surprised to find they were half price, at $24!

Seems to be well built for the money. Comes with a handlebar and a helmet mount (but annoyingly none of the sticky pads to fit the helmet mount to your helmet).

They also have the Vivitar mini camera at half price, $20. I'm not sure how good these are.

From what I can tell, the 3SIXTY model is the same as the Navig8r model that is being sold at Harvey Norman for $49: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/navig8r-sports-cam-720-action… (at least it has the same packaging, case and design as the 3SIXTY model).

don't expect much and you'll be about right.

    • Thanks for that, I tried searching for them on the Big Dubs website but couldn't find it :(

  • Are these pieces of shit or not too bad?

    • It's very subjective, depends what you want to do with it.

In general, the cheap action cameras are OK in low vibration or still activities but they blurr a lot in high vibration stuff eg. mountain biking and motorcycling.

A few months ago I was close to buying a Navig8r Sports Cam 720P for $39 from Office Works. I studied heaps of YouTube videos for the Navig8r 720P. The video from inside a 4WD was very usable after applying YouTube video editor's Stabilise/anti-shake. The YouTube videos from mountain bikes doing enduro/cross-country were absolutely terrible. YouTube videos from road bicycles in the city were very usable.

The Navig8r, 3SIXTY and Laser action cameras are stocked everywhere (Harvey Norman, Office Works, Big W, computer shops). So I'm guessing the warranty and reliability of these are OK. Don't know about the Vivitar and other no-name brands.

After all my research I decided to pay a little more for a $69USD 1080p action camera called a SJ1000. The SJ1000 lens is sharp enough to show license plates and the video shows a lot of detail even when shaking violently.

However, BigW's website now says they're $48 - was this a weekend only special?

  • I went to the shop to get one but it was scanned at $48. I put it back and now ill wait till it drops

  • Been told it was a weekend special only.
