Claim Experience with Cheaper Car Insurance Policy

Just want to see if anyone has experience to claim car insurance with the cheaper car insurance.

Be upfront, it was my mistake for being cheap.
Tried to save some money (over $1000) and moved my comprehensive car insurance policies from NRMA to Woolies (Hollard) earlier this year.

One of my vehicles was involved in an accident earlier this week. Lucky no one was injuried. Car was fully insured.

Never had any issue with NRMA before. Self completed a claim through Woolies online (8-5 only for customer service), waited one day before receiving a call. No need of acknowledgement, Hollard made an enquiry on my personal file through a third party credit reference company Veda. Now they are questioning the insurance claims under the record in the past 5 years (probably because the policy states zero) and ask me to approach my previous insurer NRMA to supply the driver detail/at fault per claim/ type of accident on those previous claims back 4 years ago or older.

Survived an accident, all one wants is to get the car fixed. The last thing is to jump through the hoop and worry about being investigated. Staff from NRMA are most helpful to provide me the documents needed. The woolies policy recorded no previous claim on my policy, though I told woolies during the quote we had small accidents but not sure whether 4 or 5 years and we had maximum no claim bonus. Lucky the previous claims in the history I was not the driver at fault (eg hit when parked). Fingers cross everything is ok with the claim.

Thought I gave Woolies a go but this really scared me off.

If I hit a Bugatti, I may have to file bankrupt if the insurance company refuses to pay.

PS. By the way, signed up the Woolies with $75 fuel card promo. Came after 5 months and many phone calls. Thought one card per policy… Only one for multiple policies.

Made a claim 2 months ago through Progressive where the other party was at fault and uninsured. I made sure I took down all of her details and pics of her licence.

Claimed online and got a call back the next day, they took all details from me, my car got fixed in 3 weeks and I didn't had to pay any excess :) On top of that the repairer of their choice gave me a free loan car. Once I got my car back, I realized something else wasn't working after a week. As it turned out, again got a free loan car and they fixed my car again without any questions or excess.

Couldn't praise them highly enough. Very happy with the whole process and they had the cheapest rates.

    • Wow, I had to spend a month without a car while my claim was being assessed by SGIO.

we're also with progressive and made a windscreen chip claim and it's done easily and no excess

they use o'brien for their windscreen chip repair.

was going to pay $85 with Instant Windscreens but i thought i'll check with my insurance first.

    • i thought you have to pay for excess for windscreens with progressive?

      https://www.progressiveonline.com.au/does-my-policy-cover-fr…

Progressive does not provide free windscreen replacement, but we do provide free windscreen repair (i.e. chips, dents) with Comprehensive cover. There are no limitations on windscreen replacements. Your Standard Excess level does apply each time you require a replacement.

edit: oh wait, yours was a chip repair not a whole replacement

The only gripe ive had with a cheaper insurance provider was they preferred after market parts rather than genuine. Switched back to the state funded one and got crashed into snd they replaced the parts with genuine factory ones. There were no hassles with either doing the claim process.
