Looking for D Cell Rechargeable Batteries and Recharger

I'm in need of some good quality (and cheap if possible) rechargeable batteries. Got a kids toy that takes 4xD cells and chews up and spits out the 8xEneloop AAs in an adapter in about 1-2 days. I've currently always got my recharger full of batteries just from this one toy, I'm over it, I can't take the toy off her because she loves it, so time to bite the bullet and get some rechargeable D cells.

I really don't know a lot about batteries, and can't find any good deals.

All I've really come up with is:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111294196049

But that is $120 to get 8 cells, without a charger. Any better deals out there?

And that brings me to, what charger would you guys recommend?

Thanks!

AUD 47.00 for 6 batts delivered to Sydney

    • TERRIBLE suggestion.

Those are 2500mah. Thats the same capacity as AA's. Stay away.

  • D Cells are flipping expensive and I have no idea why. More expensive for a given capacity than AA's. I've been looking for some to make a camping light.

The other problem is most smart chargers don't support them, so there's no easy way of measuring the capacity.

    • That Kogan one looks pretty good. Any one else tried these? Are they the real deal?

    • Thanks, the adapters I have already take 2xAA, so the toy kills 8x eneloops in about 1-2 days. Even with a 3xAA adapter best I'd probably do is 2-3 days. Even with decent alkaline D cells it only lasts about 5-6 days.

Has anyone tried these Kogan batteries, are they any good?

Cheapest solution would probably be 3AA to D adapters, especially if you have the Eneloops lying around.

Or if you want actual D batteries, this is the best deal I could find on eBay for the Tenergys.

This is what I use for a charger, but it can only charge two Ds at a time. There are some good videos about it on YouTube.

The charger has a Europlug, so you'll need an adapter.

If you want to charge more than two D batteries at a time, this is the only quality charger I'm aware of at that size. It's quite expensive.

    • Thanks.. that's a pretty good price on the Tenergys, I think that's the way I'll have to go. I've heard good things about the Maha chargers, but it hurts so much how damned expensive this whole exercise is. Thanks guys.

  • Aldi were selling D + C a while back -2 for $6.99. i have aldi AA rechargables and they are good. they were also selling chargers for C + D batteries for $10.

but this was 6 months or so ago. :(

    • The aldi ones had a very low capacity. Can't remember the figure, but it was low.

  • Thanks everyone, I thought I'd post an update in case anyone else is looking to go down this path in the future. I decided to go with the Tenergy Premium (white ones) as per DisabledUser135890's suggestion. I had a bit of trouble getting over the upfront cost, but now I have, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. The rechargeables last about the same in this device as the alkaline ones (much, much better than the adapters), and they've gone though about 15 cycles thus far, and still holding the same time in the device. All in all, I've saved myself quite a bit by buying these.
