ANZ platinum FF card and travel insurance issue

Hi

I applied for the ANZ Platinum FF card for the points at the end of July.

I'm in the process of planning an overseas US trip (30th June -Aug 2, 2015)

I read that ANZ platinum has one of the better free credit card travel insurance around.

problem is my card will expire in the middle of my trip. the renewal fee is $295. I don't want to pay 295 for the annual fee

it's cheaper for me to go get travel insurance from an external source (ie. $195 quoted before any discounts)

is there anyway I can renew this without having to pay 295. I figured I would still be up if I had to pay 150 for the renewal as oppose to paying 195 for the insurance.

The reason I ask now is because the flights I want is cheap now until late October and want to see if its worth paying with this card

Thanks

  • Ring up and tell them you want to close the account, they might waive the annual fee to keep you as a customer…. Particularly if you use the card alot and dont pay it back in full

  • +1

Look at the Bankwest platinum no fees card. It gives you free travel insurance and does not charge a foreign transaction fee when used overseas.

    • thanks.. will look into it

  • Just be sure to look into the maximum trip time covered by the CC travel insurance. On some cards, the length of the trip can only be 14 days.
